The Brothers scored in The second period on a Q. B. sneak by R. Devey, capping a 73 yard drive. In the third quarter, J. Griner recovered a LaSalle fumble at midfield. From there a Devey-to-Byrne pass and runs by J. Pariseau and R. Stack got the ball to the LaSalle TB. Devey then pitched to D. Oberting, who made a spec- tacular catch, for a TD. The great C. B. A. offense was overshadowed by a greater defense. The defensive unit held LaSalle to 36 yards. They could get only a -8 yards on the ground. ew

The hopeful Brothers were out to avenge another of last seasons six defeats. The game was fought on even terms for several minutes until Dick Stack broke it wide open wtih an BO yard touchdown run around left end lead by good blocking. From that point on it was all Brothers with the Purple and Gold run- ning through, passing over and stopping the Crusaders cold for a 26-O shut out win. W'

V. I. also entered End 9 9' the contest undefeated boasting a ten game winning streak. A Fred Tallman Tackle record 7,000 fans iammed into Hawkins Stadium to see the annual fall classic, with the outcome of the game deciding the champions of the Diocesan League. The Brothers struck fiercely at the start trying to end the Lions eight year domination of the annual homecoming game. The Broth- ers got their two scores in the first period, behind marches of 66 and 52 yards by fullback John Pariseau and halfback Bill Byrne. With Byrne carrying 45 yards in 3 plays and Dick Stack carrying for I0 the ball was brought to the VI 5, with fullback John 'Pariseau plunging over for the T. D. It took only six plays to get the second score. Byrne went off tackle from the seven to climax that haul. Rod Bobbins dropped kick the PAT to make it I3-0. A 20 yard TD pass kept the Lions hopes alive early in the second quarter. An untimely fumble on our own I0 yard line set up the Lions second score which tied up the game. Co-Captains Byrne and Oberting were this years winners of the Brother Aloysuis Memorial Trophy. Bill Byrne lugged the ball I2 times for 94 yards, 9 more than the entire VI team accumulated on the ground. Oberting was a stand out on defense and a fine block- er and receiver on offense which merited him his share of the trophy.
