of C.B.A. worn. Brother C. Brendan succeeded Brother Clement in 1935. A second battalion was added making the cadet corps a regiment. The military band was organized and a cavalry troop was intro- duced into the regiment. The facilities at Lodge Street were rapidly becoming inadequate. Brother Brendan realizing the situa- tion began to make plans for the financing and construction of a new C.B.A. lt was during his administration that the Ladies Aux- ilary was organized with Mrs. James E. Rooney as its first presi- dent. In 1937 the Academy was accredited by the War Department as a military academy. Col. Bertrand T. Fay, USMCR, was appoint- ed to the position of P.M.S. 81 T. The year 1938 witnessed a great event in the history of the Academy-the laying of the corner stone of the new C.B.A. on University Heights on October 23, by Rt. Rev. Bishop Edmund Gibbons, Bishop of Albany. The new school was opened in 1939 and the first Mass was celebrated in the Cadet Chapel by Bishop Gibbons. - ' 1940 saw the organization of the Men's Association ilater called the Fathers' Associationl with Mr. John Salm as its first president. This group brought together once a month the fathers of boys in the school and many others who were interested in the development of the Academy. In 1941 Brother Aloysius, a mem- ber of the faculty, was made director succeeding Brother Brendan, the founder of the new C.B.A. During his term of office the plans for a new gymnasium were drawn up and in 1944 the new building was completed and blessed by Rt. Rev. Msgr. Edward Maginn, V.G. On April 12 of that same year Brother Paulian celebrated his Golden Jubilee. While on way to the summer retreat in 1946 Brother Aloy- sius died suddenly and Brother B. Thomas was assigned to take over the directorship of the Academy. Although the Academy was located in the University Heights area the Brothers residence was still located at Lodge Street until 1948 when it was abandon- ed. The faculty lived at La Salle School on Western Avenue until January 14, 1950, at this time they moved into their faculty house adiacent to the school. It was shortly afterwards that Brother A. Francis celebrated his Golden Jubilee. During these years our athletic teams were bringing fame to the Academy and the Rifle Team won many high places in the annual Hearst National Rifle Contests. In 1955 Brother Cornelius Peter was sent to succeed Brother Thomas as director. Many improvements made about the grounds of the Academy. The erection of a grotto designed by Brother A. Gabriel to Our Lady of Lourdes was the most notable of these improvements. As one looks back over this span of a century of progress, one can not but admire the faith, determination, hard work and foresightedness of those that helped to make the present C.B.A. the outstanding educational institution that it is today. With God's help this work will continue so that those of the future may share in the great traditions as those of the past have shared and those of the present are now sharing. Beside being the graduating class of the Centenary Year of Christian Brothers Academy, we, the seniors, have been privileged to have been instructed by two members of the faculty who are celebrating their twenty-fifth anniversary as Christian Brothers. These religious, Brother B, James and Brother A. Patrick, received the Habit of a Christian Brother September 7, 1933 and then spent the next four years of training together. Upon com- pletion of their scholasticate, they were separated, each being assigned to different communities. Brother James received teach- ing assignments in St. Joseph's School, New York City, Holy Name School, New York City, LaSalle Academy, New York City, St. Patrick's, Newburgh and Christian Brothers Academy, Albany. During the same period, Brother Patrick was assigned to St. Gabriel's School, New York City, St. Raymond's School, New York City, Good Shepherd School, New York City, Lincoln Hall, Lincoln- dale, LaSalle Academy, Providence, R. l., Bishop Loughlin, Brook- lyn, La Salle Military Academy, Oakdale, L. l. and Christian Broth- ers Academy, Albany. Brother James and Brother Patrick will be long remembered by us as religious educators and gentlemen and also for the numerous times that they were of assistance to us. We hope and pray that God will give them many more fruitful years so that others may receive the benefits as we did.
