CIENTIENAIRY W pm ! 1- f -.5 17 , r..-. xx Page' fight n I854 Pius IX proclaimed, as a Dogma of our holy Faith, the Immaculate Conception of Mary-that the Mother of God had always been absolutely free from all stain of original sin. In so doing, the Sovereign Pontiff was only confirming what had always been the belief of the faithful from the dawn of Christianity, for to them Mary had ever been our tainted nature's solitary boast. One hundred years later, on September 8, l953, our present Holy Father, Pius XII, in solemn commemoration of the centenary of the Dogma of the Immaculate Con- ception, proclaimed the Marian Year. Trumpeting forth the praises of Mary, the Mother of God, in his Encyclical Fulgens Corona Gloriae, the saintly shepherd of Rome has called all men to the feet of Mary during this his- toric year. There, he has told the world, will the con- fused and erring people of the earth again find the Way, the Truth and the Life, and be urged to innocence and integrity of life. The young, in a special way, must turn to Mary in this year that there may grow up a generous and prom- ising YOUTH, pure and unblemished, that the beautiful flower of YOUTH may not suffer itself to be infected by the corrupt breath of this world and grow up in vice, that YOUTH may not turn toward what is evil, but raise themselves up to whatever is beautiful, whatever holy, lovable and elevating. May this Marian Year plea of the Vicar of Christ in his encyclical be fulfilled in the Cadets of I954.
