THE CADET The crowning point of sueeess in journalistic achievement. Tm-1 CADET. has been reached at C.B.A. This first yearbook, standing as an arch- way for things to come. has hnally materialized as a step forward in establishing a living tradition. sustained and progressing within each class and molded in their beliefs. There is no better begin- ning for Tina CiADliT than in this, the first year of the second century of the Brothers in this country. 'l'his pioneer yearbook is staffed by many active seniors. It is diflicult for one to conceive or to imagine the amount of work that is required in the publication of a yearbook. In view of all the activities that are part of our lives at C.B.A., it is difiicult also to understand how so many boys can find time to do so much work. Yet, there are always those select few who can find time to do a job no matter what its scope. nor no matter how exacting. To these dynamos of energy and to the constant supervision and encouragement of Brother Peter do we owe the success of 'l'lIla I9-P9 CAD!-LT. Among those boys who are always at hand when the work is the most difiicult and time-consuming, are a great many active seniors. The Editor-in- Chief Art Flores can be found in the midst of activity at all times. His customary salutation and exortation is, iN'hat's new , and Let's get t0 workn. As every senior knows, Art is one of the outstanding men to come out of the Class of '-19. Next in line in the list of top men in the yearbook sl' A. Flores discusses sports section with R. Mcflinlev is Torn Brown, the Editor. Tom. as-ide from being Flores' right-hand man, is quite an organizer in his own right. Mike Weiss. the Literary Editor. in always at hand with his constructive ideas. Don Gavin and Vince Ciota are constantly at work with new ideas and many innovations in the fields of design. On the other hand, if it were not for-lim Hannon the yearbook might not be a yearbook at all. for it is he who has engineered the senior section. The business department is managed by jimmy Powers and he is ably aided and abetted by such boys as Bob O'T0ole, Bill Glavin, Don Ruggaber and Art Loring. There are many others too numer- ous to mention, but they will not feel slighted because their reward is only the success which they have achieved. All in all. with this, the first yearbook, we hope to establish a precedent by which the lower class- men may become acquainted. Let us hope that they may expand with time, in their sphere of influence and, thus doing, may enlarge and per- fect what we have begun. T. llrown, .X. Flores and Powers draft plans for Tin: CADIi'l'N

Little Johni' gets taken for a ride an Oscar as the toughest. most menacing mugs of the year. They efiieiently handled the part of The Gimp . Solomon . as played by 'lim Kavanaugh and ,lim Powers. was doubtless the comic hit of the show. They really 'irolled 'em in the aislesn in their side-splitting renditions of the hilarious Solomon,'. Tony Losi and Dominic Donato portrayed the excitable fantastic little fruit vendor. Domonic Battista. Their rollick- ing version provided an easy outlet for unsuppressed laughter. In the monastery scene we had Bill Cashin and Paul DeRusso as the sympathetic, understanding Abbot llonquil. Each ex- celled in the gentle presentation of the Abbot. who seemed so willing to help Brother Orchid. Their performances were particularly touching. Al Schiavone paralleled Garry Nlurphy as Brother Gera- nium. the man who had a problem. The simplicity and heart- lelt expression in the part contrasted with the rougher, less gentle Brother Orchid. Cliff Bradt. the dramatics critic. Slave Art Flores extremely high praise for his interpretation and presentation of Brother Nasturtium. However. Neil lYestgate was unsurpassed in his equivalent role. Actually both boys were superb. As the haughty, sharp voiced Brother Hollyhock, Will Klein and Will Toomey rendered sterling performances. Be- cause of their marvelous exhibition several people hated them as they endeared Dominic'l. However, it was all in the script, and we will remember the enthusiasm both YVill's had in putting on their part of the play. THE Mex BEHIND THE Sci-Qxx-:su Orchids'i to these men that made our play the phe- nomenal success that it was. By dint of persevering labor and motiye of pure unselHshness our stage crew make possible the success of the play. Clapably directed by Professor Sano, the coinriittee consised of -Ioe Nowak. Manager, Don Ruggaber, Phil Sgarlata, Tom Grady, Don Williams and Joe Joyce. Words cannot express the gratitude of the cast towards these self4sacrificing men. Under the capable direction of Professor William Murphy Brother Orchid was conceived, curtained and made a beautiful reality. The members of the cast are as one in expressing their thanks to Prof. for making possible the completion of their dreams of a Senior Playu. The Floratincs at VYork Ruggaber, Joyce, D. Williams, Nowak, T. Grady 1 ladderl and P. Sgarlata put iinisliing touches o their scenery W M, at Q , J , --
