The life of the cadet at C.B.A. is rounded out with a sports program that amply fulfills the pur- pose of his physical development. The cadets have regular gym periods intermingled throughout their schedules, besides that received through the P.M.S.8zT. in marching and physical drills. The school teams that compete with other schools furnish a large percentage of students in expert training in particular sports. These are the varsity, junior varsity and freshman teams in foot- ballg the varsity team in cross countryg the varsity, MR. Tuoztms PETE TNTOONEY Football, Basketball, Baseball Coach Sports... junior varsity, freshman and midget squads in basketballg the varsity and freshman teams in trackg the varsity teams in rifle shootingg and the varsity and HB teams in baseball. The intramural sports are enthusiastically fol- lowed through the facilities of the interclass cross country meet, the interclass basketball tournament. the boxing tournament and the annual field day. There are few cadets, therefore. who don't actually participate actively in one or more ol' these forms of athletics at C.B.A. 4410355

. ,!,,,,.1,-.........,,,,, it -1-L wo , 1 ' LA SALLE SCHOOL La Salle School on YN'estern .Avenue is called the cradle of Christian Brothers' Academy. The Brothers came to Albany in 1854 at the earnest request of Bishop, later Cardinal, NIcCloskey to conduct the Catholic Orphan Asylum, the present La Salle School. They opened a pay school on the premises in 1859 for day students. This project proved to be so successful that they soon found it 'impossible to accommodate all the applicants. In 1862, there- fore, they transferred the academy to a building on Niadison Avenue. l.a Salle School, the parent school, took upon itself to perform a noble deed in 1948 when it received its offspring with open arms in the person of the Brothers teaching at C.B.A. Closed out from it 102 D their dilapidated Lodge Street dwelling and wait- ing to build their new faculty house, the Brothers took up temporary quarters at one of La Salle School's newer buildings. This was accomplished principally through the generosity of its director, Rev. Brother Bernard Peter, F.S.C., and at grave inconvenience to its faculty and the boys there. In spite of slightly crowded conditions, every facility available was extended to the C.B.A. Brothers and they live among the La Salle groups as one big happy family. Christian Brothers, Academy expresses deep gratitude to La Salle School, not only for the part it has taken in C.B.A.'s upbringing, but also for its present hospitality in nurturing C.B..5x.is faculty while they are expanding their school to its full maturity.
