Varsigr Volleyball On the court, there is a shout from one of C. K. girls. Come on girls, call for the ball! Letis keep the serve! The whistle blows. In the air, there is a resounding smack as the hand of J uay Sczcpanski comes into contact with the mean white vol- leyball. Although it is with much dwculty, the opposing team is able to return the powerful serve. The ball sails back over the net,' Diane McDonald yells, Got it! as she proceeds to drive the ball low and hard over the net. Catching the opponents unaware, the ball falls to the floor on their side of the court. The referee signals for a point to be recorded for Christ the King. Many more points were to be played and C.K and was to be victorious in their match against Mater Christi. This victory, as all others, was the result of many hard hours of work and the grave determination to win by the Christ the King Vol- leyball team, under the expert coaching of Mr. Joseph Elenchick. This was to be one of the many battles in which our Varsity girls struggled to reign supreme. The greatest obstacle proved to be getting used to each other on the court. Of all the nine present Varsigr members, onbf two, Captain Darcy Thompson and junior Judy Sczcpanski, remain from the Varsity team of the previous year. Six members have advanced from the 1976 Junior Varsity team, including Joann Gornail and Dorene Woods. The jnal member is Mary Fahy, a newcomer to the volleyball squad. Yet our girls overcame this hardship through much practice and an unsinka- ble spirit. Tremendous serving and well-directed hits by co-captain Michelle Kelbr, Cheryl Trembinski and Doreen Young, along with the ejorts of the members men- tioned above, have hehred the team to continue on their winning ways. The Varsity team finished the season with a record of 8 wins and 4 losses which placed them in a three wigr tie for hrs! place. In a run-off match against Stella Maris, our girls played well and put up a good fight. Nevertheless, they lost the match. Ending the season on such a strong note, be sure to look for our Varsity girls in the playoffs next season! Q Num 1 1 ' if 1 1.311 1'

Junior Varsity Volleyball '9 ' ' M fl-: 1 ,,:Jfy, 5 lfv: f' tx: J K The CK Junior Varsitans on the team have also had a hard working season. In every game a new star arose to hehn CK in the fight for victory. An earbf talent search found Karen Page, captain Regina Franklin and co-captain Leslie, Maltese reaay and rareing for action. Jackie Duggan and Ann Marie Sanna also provide themselves to be hghters. As the season progressed sophs Barbara Costello, Ann Marie Sanna, and Leslie Maltese proved to be both excellent servers and spikers, jirmbf keeping the position in hand. Karen Pekle and Roma Kochman also emerged as good consistent players. Commendations to this J. V team, who, like their Varsity sis- ters, have had to overcome the dijfculty of playing with almost completehf new and unfamiliar team members. Their hard work this season makes for a very promising one next year with the girls having an excellent chance of becoming the Queens Division Champs, on the Junior Varsity level. ,........
