Last summer the Chrisman FFA Chapter rated very high in the state' beef judging contest, held at the Univer- sity of Illinois. Paul Walters, Gerald Rhoden, and Eddie Morgan participated in the beef iudging team, which placed in the top five teams in Illinois. The first big event of the school year was the corn show held at Chrisman in November. The Chrisman Chapter placed high. Later Jack McVicker placed first and Ray Martin second in the Trisler Seed Corn Show. At Blue Mound, Ray Martin took second and Jack Mc- Vicker fourth in the DeKalb Corn Contest. Corn samples were sent to the lnternational Grain Show where the chapter placed ninth of the top I5 teams. During the basketball season the FFA purchased a popcorn machine, which almost paid for itselffrom sell- ing at games. This quartette went to the District Music Contest and came home with a first division rating. In the State Music Contest they got a third division rating. Two of these games were lost after we had built up big leadsin the early stages of the game. Against Fisher, Chrisman was leading 22 to 0 at the end of the first quarter only to go on to defeat. Later on in the season, we were leading Perrysville 20 to 6 at the end of the first quarterp again we were dealt a defeat. Graduating seniors who are lost for next year are: Capt. The outstanding performer in the meet was Jerry Rhoden who placed first in three events and was a member of the winning relay team. He was also the high scorer on the track team throughout the season, but was closely followed by Jerry Wilson. John Owen established a new school discus record of l l8' 5 while Ray Martin established a new school record in the mile run of 5:01 .5 minutes. Baseball was tried for the first time here as an experiment to determine whether it could be played along with football and track.
