Homecoming 87: floats, fun, and footbaU An old tradition broke through in 1987, when the Homecoming parade was moved back to a Saturday morning and followed a route from the campus through downtown Murfreesboro, to officially begin the annual celebration. The parade, sponsored by the Stu- dent Government Association, was one of the best in many years and showed both the creativity and spirit of Chowan students. Many alumni returned to the campus on the beautiful, warm day in early November to take part in the traditional receptions, class reu- nions, and a luncheon in the President ' s Dining Room. They re-lived their Chowan days to visit their old residence hall rooms, renew friendships with former professors, and to view the progress of the college since their gradua- tion. Amy Pierce, a physical education major, was crowned Homecoming Queen during halftime ceremonies of the football game, and Christi King was named Freshman Princess. The Chowan Braves made the day a perfect one by posting a come from behind victory over 10th ranked junior college team from Montgomery College, 27-24. The win was very special for several alumni, who were recognized at halftime, then inducted into the Chowan Sports Hall of Fame at a banquet later that evening. Receiving the special honor were Coach James Garrison, Coach Jerry Hawkins, and two former Brave athletes, Ben Rich of Newport News, Va., and Dave Whaley, of Newcastle, Del. 14 Homecoming
