Day by day students rack their brains and fill their minds with the knowledge they need to pass tests and learn skills, but students don ' t spend all day and night in the books. One of the favorite after hours entertainment for Chowan students was and still is The Light. It is a supposively ghost light which haunts a section of railroad tracks near the school. Hundreds upon hundreds of students have visited the tracks in search of the origin of the mysterious light but no one has ever achieved their goal. The light is supposed to be cause by a ghost named Uncle George, who lost his head in an accident and searches for it with his lantern nightly. Maybe one day someone will discover the cause of the light, but until then, the light still at- tracts the attention of students who look for a little excitement after a long day of studying. 18

Hiilfl K 1 H i rs B HL tMi Jm c p Hy ' p H y TOe j ' rsf major production of the Chowan Players was Arsenic and Old Lace , a play in three acts which was written by Joseph Kesseling with special arrangements with Dramastic Play Service, Inc. It was acted on Decembers, 7, and 8. There was a large attendance including members of the neighboring High Schools and a few Chowan Professors. One of the special quests was a teacher who had directed the same play when Ms. Boyce per- formed in it in college. 19
