FOOTBALL IS 1976 Football Season (5-5-1) The Chowan Braves started the 1976 season out with high hopes of vast improvement on the previous seasons record. Armed with a brand new offense (The Twin -veer), Chowan started out probably its most difficult schedule ever. This was the first year the Braves had ever attempted an eleven game schedule, which included not only the tough rivals of the coastal conference, but also games with the J.V. ' s of U.N.C, N,C, State, ECU., and four-year school Liberty Baptist The changing of the Braves offense probably proved to be their undoing. The twin-veer offense is one hard to master and one that is subject to a higher percentage of mistakes if not mastered to a high degree of effeciency Baltimore Community College (41-0) The second week of the football season saw the Braves open their home season against conference foe Baltimore. From the start of the game, there was little doubt of the outcome. The Braves offense jumped into high gear and the taunted defense smothered every Baltimore effort, N.C. State J.V. ' s (1-0) The Braves had to use very little effort in winning this 4th game. A call was received, indicating that the game would not be able to be played. Thus a forfeit win was awarded to Chowan Ferrum (4-2) The Braves won their first homecoming game in four years as they completely dominated archrival Ferrum 1 4-2. The defense played the heroics in this game as it did in so many games throughout the season Hudson Valley (49-7) An all-around performance by the offense and the defense led the Braves to its most productive game of the season in Troy, NY U.N.C. J.V. ' s (37-7) The Braves ended up the season with their most impressive win. The ball game was played in Kenan Stadium at Chapel Hill, NC and the Braves seemed to want to impress the people there The score was close 10-7 going into the last Quarter, but a series of mistakes by the Tarbabies and sterling performance by the Braves offense and defense turned the ball game into a rout 37-7. The season could have been much more successful, except for the high rate of turnovers on offense Chowan led in every ball game but one dunng the season. The Braves total defense was second best in the Conference and tenth best in the nation. 2£r

administrative members Their mam grievance stated that they had been treated (disciplinary actions) differently than American students by some elements of the campus. A solution was assured but agreed It would take time and shortly after 6:00 PM. the assembly broke up. Dr Whitaker said that as president of the college, it was his concern that all students be treated fairly. However, he did not support the claims of the students but expressed his interest in getting assurance to his own satisfaction that the elements understood the position of Chowan College with respect to equal treatment to all students. ...J -J BiLk ■ 27
