STUDENT UNREST Chowan College found itself tbe spot for student unrest in September It started at 8 : 00 AM Monday, September 27 and ended |ust after 6:00 PM Tuesday, September 28 A group of Iranian students assembled on the lawn in front of Columns to express to the administration their concern that they had been treated differently, A disciplinary case of an Iranian student was believed to have led to the student ' s assembly. RESCUE In the Big Woods , two ver small children were lost Mariah and Michael Collins, three-year old twins, and their two pets wandered from their yard into a several thousand acre tract of timber near Como They were missing from 11.00 AM until 2:45 PM, Seventy-three Chowan College students joined in the massive search for the lost youngsters. administrative members Their mam grievance stated that they had been treated (disciplinary actions) differently than American students by some elements of the campus. A solution was assured but agreed It would take time and shortly after 6:00 PM. the assembly broke up. Dr Whitaker said that as president of the college, it was his concern that all students be treated fairly. However, he did not support the claims of the students but expressed his interest in getting assurance to his own satisfaction that the elements understood the position of Chowan College with respect to equal treatment to all students. ...J -J BiLk ■ 27
