A new sport was created this year at Chowan, Mud Sliding, In the early part of the fall sennester, after a day or two of hard rain, water formed a lengthy puddle in a low lying path Several guys got together and found skimming through the water on their backside, mud spraying up all over them and the feeling of |ust being muddy, was a thrill that sometimes only kids experience After a slide or two, one could hardly tell who was who They all looked alike, mud from head to toe 23

Run for Fun Health - Life This was Orvil Reid ' s slogan as he celebrated his retirement. 68 years young, by jogging from Atlanta, Georgia to Richmond, Virginia Of course Reid did not run this great distance nonstop. Rest stops were scheduled along the way. Reid ' s stops were unusual in that he conducted rallies — rallies demonstrating his great stamina He challenged anyone in the audience here on campus to assist him in demonstrating his strength Ray Henderson jumped on his stomach. Tommy, Stuart and others attempted to bend fhis arm by hanging from it Stuan, Tommy, Steve and Gibbs played tug-a-war with the rope around his neck. Bob Blackburn broke a rock on his stomach with an 18 pound hammer Reid ' s rallies featured a challenge to people to accept Christ as Savior, to commit themselves to Christian sen ice, and to adopt clean habits of physical fitness. 24
