Despite the superb coaching and hard playing, the teams record wounti up on the minus side of the ledger. This is not. by any means, to say that il was a poor season. The Braves went to Apprentice to start the season only to be defeated b the Shipbuilders with j score of 20-9. After that Chowan surprisingly grabbed a victory from Baltimore. The Baltimore Red Devils won the game -V. -l but used ineligible players giving us the victory by forfeit. With this fortunate bit of luck the Braves were looking for a real victory. They found it at a home game against the Potomac State Catamounts. The Braves returned unhappy, but a devoted football team. Ferrum was the next opposing team to come to Chowan. Ferrum ranked first among the nation ' s junior college football powers but Chowan Braves gave them a scare with a fighting score. Chowan defeated the Panthers in statistics but lost to a tally of 45-27. With the shock of defeat the Braves played Lees-McRae for Homecoming. The field was slick with mud which slowed the Braves down giving Lees-McRae the victory with a heartbreaking score of 27-0. Mad with revenge the Braves scalped the undefeated Pirates with a final score of 28-7.
