SOPHOMORE CLASS OFFICERS Bill Slate Sam Harahan Sandra Simmons Gwen Foy Jerry Ford President Vice-President Secretary Social Co-Chairman Social Co-Chairman Another year has rolled around, and another Sophomore class will be leaving Chowan campus and many memories. This year things were a little different. We had a Braves Week , ended by Braves Court, to promote school spirit instead of the one Rat Day that we, Sophomores, are sure will never forget. The Fight Song, written by the Sophomore Class, was an addition to Brave Week, It was an unusual sight to visitors during Braves Week, to see the entire Freshman class dressed in blue and white headbands. The weather put a damper on our Homecoming and our Floats, but a good time was had by all. Chapel programs have been enjoyed this year, and squirrel hunting has been fine. Yes, another year and four seasons for some have gone by, but we, the Sophomores, will always remember Chowan. 30 ,isS Douglas Norman Addington Earl Dean Allen - • « mt Rose Ann Anderson William Benjamin Anderson Howard Clayton Andleton Charles Douglas Bailey diM Bonnie Virginia Baker George Clarence Baker Geraldine Renee Ballard George Hayes Barr ♦ Ak jT 1 Reginald Clifton Barrack Russell Braceland Barnette William Thomas Bass Newton Beach Rj wk ' - bulie Brown Bigger Kenneth Max Blanchard Sue Anne Blanchard David Blythe Earl C. The bull sessions at the Student Union, gatherings m the Pastime, and the annual visit from the Brown Lady , have helped to make our year complete. Who could ever forget Brave Week and all we struggled through in Brave Court . It was rough, but we enjoy- ed every minute of it. Returning next year as Sophomores, will be our long awaited goal. Freshmen 10 Coach Jim Garrison Coach Jerry Hawkins Ronnie Wallace Jerry Ford Pete Britton, halfback, 5 ' 9 , 165 lbs., from Holland, Va., has been outstanding all season as a punter, pass receiver and a very penetrating runner. Chowan is truly proud of number 18. Ronnie Wallace comes to us from New Bern, N. C. He is a fullback weighing 185 lbs. and standmg 5 ' 10 . Ronnie is only a freshman and he is in for a fine college career in football. Our praises for a job well done. Jerry Ford, tackle, is also one of the Braves captains. This is his second year as starting tackle. He is 5 ' 11 , 215 pounds, and is from Richmond, Va. Our congratulations to these fme outstanding players of the year. Robert ■Bob Ryan, 6 ' , 180 lbs., defensive end from Richmond, Va. Jr. College All-American, Honorable Mention; Ail Conference; Tri Captain. Bob is a second year starter for the Braves defensive team which yielded only 23 points last sea- son. Great desire, will power and his love for football made him the outstand- ine athlete he is. d ' A path is cleared for Britton! CHOWAN VS LEES McRAY With the hopes and expectations of a great season, the Braves out classed a tough Lees McRay squad. Having a slow first half, the Braves scored twice in the 4th period submerging a 20-6 victory. CHOWAN VS POTOMAC STATE After a tough game of defense, the Braves scalped another opponent 6-0; the Catamounts from Potomac State. A pass from Whaley to Britton was the lone tally. Brave stopped after lon.c gain Victory is sweet ! ■ . ' t- L k: Braves over for a score ! Coach Garrison discusses strategy. CHOWAN VS GARDNER WEBB Fresh from a resent victory over Patomac State, the Braves continued to roll up impressive scores. The Gardner Webb Bulldogs were tough but fell under pres- sure of the Brave ' s attack 19-0. CHOWAN VS ECC FRESHMEN The trip to the ECC campus was none too pleasing for the Braves and students. Plagued with injuries and penalties, we came out on the short end 17-6. Wallace puts the show on the road r t :JSA _ Whaiey is forced out of bounds. CHOWAN VS U. R. FRESHMEN The remainder of the season was a hectic one for our Braves. With injuries to key players the last three out of five games were miserable ones for Chowan. Rival Ferrum tied the Braves 12-12. Gardner Webb got revenge handing Chowan a 28- 13 defeat. The annual Homecoming was different however. Chowan defeated Lees McRay 27-0 in a runaway ball game. It was a wet and muddy gridiron the week that W M Freshmen defeated Chowan 6-0. The season ended with a sweet victory over U. R. Freshmen 20-10, as the Freshmen walked off the field in the third quarter. Brinkley finds a hole! Whaiey evades would be tacklers! ■WBB ■ Mk i . i ; Dollar finds a hole! Although Chowan College s ' 62 edition did not have one of their more impres- sive records, there was always will and determination. The big factor for the three losses was because of injuries sustained in previous games. The Student Body would like to express their deepest appreciation for repre- senting Chowan so well.
