“
Dedication We, the Seniors of 1965-66, dedicate our yearbook to a man who we feel has helped us the most in the past year. A man who has helped teach us the true meaning of the word life”'. Life, by itself and for itself, is a very unattractive existence. But life with a purpose and a meaning is a wonderful thing to behold. It reaches into our souls and stirs that thing which we call love. A life that is lived in this manner is a life worth living. Mr. Donald Deaton lived such a life. In the short time Mr. Deaton taught at Chouteau High School, he gained the admiration and respect of everyone. Mr. Deaton was a quiet man, but a man with definite ideas and ideals. He spoke softly; but when he spoke, people listened. Mr. Deaton became one of the best liked and respected FFA teachers in Northeastern Oklahoma. To Mr. Deaton, his work with the FFA boys was more than a job, it was a privilege. Mr. Deaton worked hard for the things he believed in. One of these ideals was that every boy would show himself a man if given the opportunity. Mr. Deaton gave not only the FFA boys that opportunity, but every boy he met. Mr. Deaton worked hard to help the Chouteau FFA chapter grow. He spent hours working with them that he could have used for his own relaxation. Mr. Deaton wanted Chouteau to have the best FFA chapter in the state, and through his hard work they are becoming that. It is with grateful hearts that we, the seniors of 1965-66, humbly dedicate our yearbook to the loving memory of DONALD EDWARD DEATON who passed away September 25, 1965. “Is he dead whose glorious mind Lifts thine on high? To live in hearts we leave behind Is not to die.” Many potentially great men are taken from this Earth long before living a normal span of life. Mr. Deaton’s death left many uncompleted projects of great scope which will have lasting memories in the lives of his students. His Future Farmers students at Chouteau possess the most desirable attitudes and ideas of any school system that I have ever been associated with. You have had some victories and suffered some defeats, some pleasant experiences and some disappointments. You have made many friends among the students and faculty. You will soon be leaving the ranks of the Chouteau High School students and joining the alumni. You will always be welcome to return for a visit. If you leave the town of Chouteau, always return for the Homecoming”. If I were to extend to you one more piece of advice, it would be this: “Strive to be outstanding in whatever field you choose.” It matters not so much the field you choose as it does how you serve in that field. Your service, with distinction, will be an honor to Chouteau High School. Good luck and the best of wishes for you. Your friend, V. R, Cherry, Supt. You students at Chouteau School are blessed with two of the finest assets a human can possess, youth and the opportunity for learning. I hope you will use them both well. Today’s world has great need for a new generation with deep understanding and knowledge. To succeed in a material way, you must be better trained than your parents. The competition for a place in the professional world is keener than ever before. To succeed as a human being by living a full and happy life is even more important. The basic tools to accomplish this ambition are appreciation of the arts, philosophy, and human relationships. These are available to you here. 1 trust you will use opportunities at hand well. As Chouteau School students, you represent the leaders of tomorrow, and we desperately need young people with insight, courage, and wisdom. Sincerely, Clayton L. Endicott Board of Education V. R. Cherry, Superintendent George Moore, Member W. E. Battenfield, Vice President Albert Penner, Clerk Lloyd O'Neal, President Joe R. Dill, Member DUTIES OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION 1.
