You have reached that all im- portant event of graduation from high school and have earned the right to commence a new future. Plato said, The direction in which education starts a man will determine his future life . Your graduation indicates you have started in the right direction. Your future has been determined by the education you have received the past four years. Choteau High School has tried to give each of you that start in the future. The question may be Have you taken full advantage of it ? The future will tell. We do have hopes that you will meet with great success in whatever adventure or profession you decide to undertake. He decided to visit the little fortune-telling shop on the corner to see if the Astrologer could satisfy his whim. He pushed in the swinging door and stood before a bent old Gypsy woman, who asked him to sit down. •'I came, Mr. Peck said, because I was thinking about the class of 1964, and especially Roger Weist. He's working up north on his father's ranch, isn't he? The old woman bent over her crystal ball on the table. Yes, but he does something else, too, I see: He sells blotters to the Ink Spots. Well, tell me more about some of the other students in the class. Cross my palm with silver first, said the woman. We will start around Chateau and travel from here. With this a thin mist filled the room and Mr. Peck felt himself slowly floating through space. The room quickly became that of a Choteau tavern. Mr. Peck saw a poor broken-down man playing sad music on his trumpet. He remembered when C. H. S. had had such high hopes for Ron Pierre. The fortune-teller explained that Ron's life had been saddened when his fiance', Linda Vance, had left him for an old school friend, Jim Sul grove. What about his friend, Allen Peters? questioned Mr. Peck. Allen has put his presidential experience to good use and has become president of the Bynum Brewery Association. He is also mayor and sole owner of the seven bars and one grocery store there, replied the old woman. It seemed to Mr. Peck that the liquor business had really boomed in that small suburb. As they looked intently at the globe, it revealed the scene of a newspaper office. Mr. Peck asked, What has this to do with the class of 1964? The fortune -teller replied, This shop is owned by Lawrence Truchot. He has one of the largest society columns in the city and if we look closely, we will be able to see more familiar names. For instance, there are such people as: KATHY BOUSSARD, who is not driving a big black limousine for Mrs. Buforphington, whose late husband invented the chicken. MARC ANDERSON, who is running Marcy's Fashion Shop in Chicago and is selling sun-snatcher bathing suits. GRETCHEN VOORHEES and SUSAN MEADOWS, who are working together on a mad experiment, trying to invent a mechanical man that will go under water, catch fish, and bring them up all cleaned. JOANNE NESBIT, who has achieved fame with her book of progressive poetry containing such works as My Love Is a Sparrow, Come On to My Pad, and Don't Step On My Sunglasses. SHEILA JENSON, who was always fascinated by things that jumped, now spends all of her spare time down in Australia chasing kangaroos. BOB CHERRY, who was in the elevator business, has decided to go back to the gas station business be- cause the last two elevators were so high they fell down. JOHN SWANSON, now called Fleetfoot, who is the world-wide master of dancing, having taken over Arthur Murray's place. Whoever would have thought it the way he used to cultivate the girl's compatches was just painful. 101 DONNA CHALMERS of big 15 fame, now has a big 15 of her own--seven boys and eight girls. She's a graduate of Dental School of California. She says it saves money with all of the children. BARBEE BUCHANAN, who is now a leading fashion designer and has been asked to design the clothes for the famous model, Jean McGuire. GARY DUNCKEL, who was playing with the Harlem Roadsters until they noticed that his coloring was off, along with other things. DWIGHT and GARY TRUCHOT, who have taken Finley's place at C. H. S. , produce their own un- earthly smells with those little test tubes and chemicals. Mr. Peck seemed quite surprised to hear about all of these people. But then the fog whirled and the place changed. A limousine driven by a lively chauffeur appeared. He stepped out to open the door for his employer, who turned out to be none other than Judy Morris. Mr. Peck hardly recognized her in her Russian sables and monogrammed Rolls-Royce. She was one of the class of '64 who really got into the money on winning one of Mr. Finley,s sweepstakes tickets. A massive door with gold letters on a plate glass background revealed the name of Dr. John Van Brunt. His fame had traveled far because of his invention of a zipper to close unincisions. Of course he sold his rights to the Surgical Zipper Company, and took a large block of shares in payment. ’’Now to the mountains, beckoned the Astrologer, and a mansion came into view. A small man in the foreground stepped gingerly into an outdoor swimming pool. Here was Tom Rogers, who had played the role of Tarzan; outside of the cinema, he was the under-priveleged husband of the former Miriam Val, who ruled the household with an iron hand. The closest neighbors were the exact opposite. Living in a tumbled-down cabin, Bonni Killam, now a red- faced, ragged woman with frowsy hair, motioned to un unkept figure with a pipe dangling from his lips. The crystal gazer explained that this was the one time All-American football player, Ronnie Gollehon. The Astrologer added, Speaking of football, Judy Larson is now the first woman football player, in fact, the best in the West. Besides making a career for herself, she has established a home, not counting her ten children. The Gypsy turned to Mr. Peck, Now, where would you like to go? You're doing okay, replied Mr. Peck. Then we shall go to Great Falls and then east, all right? Mr. Peck nodded. He blinked to find himself in a T. V. station AHD, owned by Anke Dhane. The old wo- man spoke in a whisper to Mr. Peck, Anke has been running this station for years. She's the American who promoted the Beatles, who took the country by storm. She's given Karen Gravdal, star vocalist on the Patty Duke Show, a contract to sing her latest recordings, 'On Top of Ear Mountain, ' 'Truchot Hill Has a Thousand Eyes, 1 and Way Down Yonder at the Elevator . Another celebrity is David Stott, who has been touring Europe lately with his beautiful tenor voice. His theme song is entitled, 'It All Started with the F. F. A. We shall now jump to New York and see some more of the C. H. S. alumni, said the Gypsy. Mr. Peck looked intently at the globe and saw a surprising thing. On a huge New York building blazed the name of Arensmeyer and Wameke, Inc. Mr. Peck watched the crystal globe and saw Ed dictating to his secretary, Chere' Forrest and Dave talking to a group of juveniles on the art of giving house parties when folks 102 aren't home. Some business they have, thought Mr. Peck. By the way, said the Gypsy, Kathy Maloney's business is located right next door. Of course, with her specialities of peach-drops, twinkletoes, and burley-fingers, her biggest customer is 'Dimples' Wameke? Now, south, directed the old woman, and the pamorama of a cotton field was spread out before the eyes of the gazer. Among the Negroes was a man of lighter complexion reclining in the shade of a tree. He seemed to be muttering to himself, and when he turned over, whom should Mr. Peck see, but Jim Carlson, though at first he was difficult to recognize under his stubble of beard and his graying hair. West? inquired the fortune-teller, and Mr. Peck saw a sign flashing that he was in Springfield, Illinois. Mr. Peck wondered who could be here. The fortune-teller explained, Judy Zgoda, whom you remember as 'Miss Flirt of C. H. S.' has started a school for girls here. The course of study is called 'How to Avoid Boys Without Really Trying, ' in six easy lessons. Boy, has she changed, commented Mr. Peck. Kenny Johnson, who has just returned from Munich, Germany, has completed his collection for beer steins and is making good use of Kenny's Keg in Denver, Colorado, we'll look in on him in passing. After Mr. Peck had admired several hundred beer mugs, the scene began to change to a big Las Vegas Hotel, Mr. Peck shook his head. Who could be here? Then he saw, gliding over the gleaming floor, a bell- boy with blond hair and a mustache. He stopped to talk to an old woman who was wearily dusting the banister. The Gypsy explained, Audrey Sheble is the charwoman, who is desperately in love with Lonnie Dale, but he has eyes only for Hollywood's glamour girl, Mabel Hansmann. The next scene, that of Hollywood, became clear. Mr. Peck saw that Jere Huffman, the world's fastest wolf, has just completed his latest pic, Go Get'em in living color. Someone was combing his hair. AH, it is Hollywood's most famous hairstylist, Hollywood Dan, alias Jim Peebles. Mr, Peck could hardly believe his eyes, but further surprises were in store for him when he saw a little brown-skinned man rowing a boat across the Pacific. Artie Anderson had a happy grin on his face as he looked intently at the horizon. When land appeared, Artie was helped ashore by the willing hands of beautiful Ha- waiian girls. Mr. Peck moaned. How he would like to be there, teaching the Hawaiian girls how to swing it. Shall we turn north? asked the Astrologer. Mr. Peck could almost feel the icy blasts as he viewed some Eskimos igloos, where a great commotion seemed to be going on. A group of Eskimos were gathered around a cake of ice and a man was perched on it in a belligerent attitude proved to be Russell Koch lecturing them on the advantages of a Honda. But Mr. Peck had to hurry on, for the crystal globe was still revealing scenes of the activities of the class of 1964. A well-traveled road came into sight. Suddenly a short, stout, tired looking gentlemen trying to thumb a ride, came into Mr. Peck's vision. Luck seemed to be against him for car after car passed by the weary traveler. After a long time a luxurious car slowed down beside the traveler, and a pleasant face at the window smiled an invitation to the man to enter. Mr. Peck saw that it was Mike Morris, who was stepping into the car driven by a fashionable appearing woman, Barbara Lussenden. Mike explained that he was hitch- hiking to San Francisco in order to train for a marathon on the Pacific coast. The car turned off the road and.. . and.., and the Gypsy covered the crystal ball with her scarf. Mr. Peck sighed and passed his hands over his eyes. He'd seen enough for one morning. 103 The Senior Class of 1964 sincerely thanks the following people for supporting our Yearbook.
