FTA encourages interest in the teaching pro- fession and gives to its members a chance to learn about teaching. The club has been very active this year. Teas were given for the teachers of both the elementary and high school. The members also served as guides at the Parent-Teacher Conferences in October. In order to learn about teaching, the 0 group has visited colleges and has listened to sever- A I al speakers. To gain practical experience, the members have acted as teachers' aides.

Safety Council Make Us Aware of Safety -- The Safety Council is made up of three com- mittees: Elementary, High School, and Community, whose main concern this year is to achieve greater safety in the school and community. The elemen- tary committee takes care of anything dealing with safety in grades one through sixg this includes such things as poster contests., bicycle-rodeo, bulletin displays, and fire drills. The high school committee stresses safety especially in sports and in driving. Pamphlets, assemblies, and fire drills are methods used to pre- sent safety information in grades seven through twelve. The community committee has the most com- plicated job of trying to reach the whole communi- ty in an attempt to keep them safety minded. They stress driving and pedestrian safety, as well as hunting safety, fire safety, and any other fields of value to the general public. The biggest event of the year is the community program which is an evening of entertainment which emphasizes safety. The Safety Council has an all day annual convention at one of the Olmsted County schools where certain topics of safety are discussed. For the past three years the Chosen Valley High School has won the Safety Council award for being the outstanding school stressing safety in Olm- sted County. ELEMENTARY COMMITTEE--M. Ellis, P.
