Several of the favorite Pop Rock artists included Duran Duran, Chi- cago, Night Ranger, David Bow- ie, Bon Jovi, Cory Hart, Pat Ben- atar, Tina Turner, Rod Stewart, The Police and the list goes on . . . Senior Dominic Ortiz quoted The group which influenced me the most was The Police basically because of the way they mix their music and how Sting writes the songs. The beat vibrated with solid Heavy Metal groups like Ratt, Twisted Sister, Motley Criie, Iron Maid- en, Scorpions, Judas Priest, Dokken, Dio, and an exceptional comeback by Kiss. Freshman Steve Lopez commented, The best men around are Saxon, some vicious gui- tars, kick - vocals and mean drums 19 FunkfSoul music was composed of numerous groups expressing high en- ergy for dancing styles like smurfing, dogging, ticking and breakdancing. The popular Soul artists consisted of Sheila E, Prince, Madonna, Ollie and Jerry, Stevie Wonder, Mi- chael Jackson, Diana Ross, Lio- nel Richie, and Chaka Khan. Junior Christine Val- encia stated, It makes me mad that people put down New Wave and Punk music because they don't understand itf, Country music was still kicking with many singers who continued to hit the charts. Country singers includ- ed Kenny Rogers, Alabama, Merle Haggard, Ricky Scaggs, Ronnie Milsap, Hank Williams Jr., Barbara Mandrell, Sylvia, Oak Ridge Boys, Statler Bro- thers and Charley McClain. Ju- niors Anna Alcaraz and Bianca Gon- zalez both thought, Alabama is 111 in country music. In general the albums which sold the most were Prince, Purple Rain, Bruce Springsteing Born in the USA, Rattg Out of the Celler, The Time, Ice Cream Castles, and Billy Idolg Rebel Yell. Concerts that appeared at the McKale Center, TCC, Phoenix Coliseum and out-of-state were The Jacksons Victory Tour, Rick Springfield, Hall and Oates, Bruce Springstein, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Alabama, and many more.
