students depend on office staff kept continuously busy by the demands of their public are members of office staff, mrs. ila dudley, principal’s secretary, keeps a file for each faculty member, puchases supplies, rings bells, and does the million other little things that keep the office running smoothly. mrs. rae barton, mrs. nita Stephens, and mrs. ida buchan have the tiresome but often amusing job of keeping stu- dent attendance records, and mrs. nancy bledsoe keeps the books for clubs and general funding, for a requisition or a dollar bill, she’s the lady with the money. rounding out the staff is the person who eases all our aches and pains, nurse joan maki. how would we get out of class without her? top students checking in and out of school during noon rush hours fre- quently find mrs. rae barton drink- ing her lunch between phone calls, center right keeping mr. h.a. brun- ner’s days straight, mrs. ila dudley schedules his appointments between the bells. 24 office staff

choctaw comes of age, keeping the prestige of 1 since choctaw was born 21 years ago, she has sought a po- sition of being number one in everything, responsible for many changes and much of the progress at choctaw- hatchee is principal h.a. bru- ner. wise in the way of estab- lishing smoothly running systems, mr. bruner believes education, not trivia, merits our foremost attention. helping mr. bruner is mr. bruce criswell, vice-principal in charge of scheduling, com- putor programming, attend- ance, discipline, and parent- student-school relations. a very busy man around is vice-principal george nied. mr. nied takes care of book dis- tribution, ticket sales, trans- portation, discipline, and lunchroom supervision. students needing a tardy pass see the pleasant face of the dean of women, mrs. elaine dark, she helps to check attendance and keeps up with tardies so that the punishment brings improved promptness, other duties in- clude involvement with dress codes, parent conferences, the faculty tea, withdrawals, and community relations. left students frequently must find mrs. elaine dark to buy school sup- plies for their next classes, top left mr. bruce criswell watches with amusement at the monday morning calamities occurring at school, top right during a brief pause, mr. h.a. bruner spends a few minutes of his day to chat with alan brown and ray albright about school issues. administration 23

counselors give amiable assistance with problems “we aren’t in the process of making decisions for the stu- dents, we help them make their own,” states mr. john gordon, 12th grade counselor. guidance assists students with any problems they wish to talk over, confident and trusting relationships grow be- tween counselors and students while the student goes from his sophomore to senior year, counselors also speak with parents and teachers as well as related outside influences, mrs. jewel pierce aids juniors, and mrs. doris peterson helps sophomores. new this year is mrs. betty harrison, our occupational specialist, mrs. harrison helps students get jobs and remain in touch with the school sys- tem here. mrs. jean grooms in guid- ance keeps students’ cumula- tive folders and does guidance secretarial work. top trying to decide on a college, debbie royster and mrs. pierce look to the reference books for help, cen- ter left arranging papers, mrs. jean grooms prepares for the oncoming rush of students, left talking with parents, mr. john gordon works from both ends to help bridge the generation gap. center right mrs. pe- terson acquires a greater prospec- tive of student’s needs through per- sonal hies. guidance 25
