1966 TOMAHAWK VOL X thru... THE TOMARAWIC REFIEOS UFB AT CROOAW Joan Walsh Anglund 8 DO YOU KNOW? Do you know the man with the clear gray eyesâthe man who doesnât bother to look around,â but looks straight ahead ? Do you know the man who leans down and touches the honest, straightforward truth with new life ? Do you know the man who smiles and laughs and gathers all the high ideals of living into one insatiable thirst for justice and knowledge? Do you know this manâthis man who is unafraid to speak his own ideas and opinions, yet welcomes those of othersâthis man with the ready smile . .. turbulent wit ... sensifive understanding ... extreme anger . .. voiced authority . .. vibrant presence . .. mature mindâthis man with the gift of giving without awareness ? He is the man who takes the green thoughts of youth and helps shape them into the mature ideals of adulthood; and we, as students, can do nothing more than to give our thanks and our acknowledgement to this unforgettable personalityâthis man who has gained truest respect from his students and friends . .. UR ROBERT F. DAVIS FACULTY uR H. A. BfyJNEB, Webster defines spirit,â in part, as the breath of life; temper, disposition, or attitude of mind; to animate with vigor; encourage; cheerfulness.â The words School Spiritâ came to my mind as I thought about our school, our teachers, our students. Our school is a very vital part of our everyday lives. By our attitude or spirit, we can have a cheerful or disgruntled faculty and student body; we can be encouraged and challenged to put forth our very best efforts or we can just get by.â My observation this year is that you have exhibited a vigorous, vital and cheerful school spiritâ which can lead to worthwhile achievements as you continue your education, become homemakers, serve our country in the armed forces or in industry. Be encouraged as you encourage others; keep an even temper, a cheerful disposition; work with vigor to build a good and satisfying future on the groundwork you have completed here at Choctawhatchee High School. H. A. Bruner Principal January 24, 1966 To the Class of '66â For a job well done over the span of the last twelve years, I want to add my words of congratulations to the many others you will hear. I also would remind you that this is not the ultimate end of your formal edu- cation. For many of you there are college years ahead; for others, years pur- suing your chosen vocation immediately. In either case, the desire to learn will be your greatest asset. As you leave the Home of the Big Green Indian, let your guiding principle be the thought never to compromise your ideals and to always strive for the better things of our democratic way of life. I wish each of you the greatest success in your endeavors. 15 Now in his third year as vice-principal of Choctaw- hatchee High School, Mr. Paul Howard continues to approach his heavy responsibilities with a background of excellent qualifications and with overwhelming en- thusiasm. The post as vice-principal was accepted by Mr. Howard after teaching at Oakland Elementary School for four years. Mr. Howard received the B.S. degree and M.S. degree from Troy State. Before entering the teaching profession, he was in the Air Force for 5l - years as a navigator. Mr. Howard is now a Captain in the Air Force Reserve. Few know the sacrifices of one carrying such a bur- den of responsibility. If energy and determination are the prerequisites, success will be the result. With his advanced concepts and vigorous adminis- tration, Mr. Bob Wehking has helped build an enviable reputation for Choctawhatchee High School. After re- ceiving his B.S. and M.S. degrees from the University of Florida, he began his travel into education. Prior to coming to Choctaw, Mr. Wehking was a football coach at Pensacola High School. In the two years Mr. Wehking has been assistant principal, he has gained the respect of students while maintaining good discipline. Over the sea of trivia that engulfs our daily existence, he constructs with wisdom and honor a bridge of op- portunity that opens to all students a plateau of knowledge. 16 JIMMIE B.
