Choctaw eeks nothcr Title Choctaw. the defending state gir1's championship basketball team, will be on trail of another crown Thursday when the gun sounds for the 1946 edition of the state regional tourna- ments for class A, B, C and girl's prep teams. District. winners are playing in the 11 regional tournaments, with the champs scheduled for an Oklahoma City appearance on March 7, 8 and 9 for the state championship playoffs. The Choctaw girls have already won the Oklahoma county tournament, the Oklahoma conference title and the district title, beating State Center, 27-16, in the finals. They have won 28 and lost two games, dropping a one-point game to Geary and a three- point one to McLoud, later beating both teams by comfortable margins. The champs get their first regional test in the Shawnee tournament Thursday when they face Spaulding. CHOCTAW GIRLS' TEAM GOES TO REGIONAL The Choctaw school's girls prep team was to go to the reg- toinal BB tourney at Shawnee this Tuesday, where they were to face the Spaulding team. The Choctaw girls have already won the Oklahoma county tourna- ment, the Oklahoma conference title and the district title, beating State Center, 27-16, in the finals. They have won 28 and lost two games, dropping a one-point game to Geary and a three-point one to McLoud, later beating both teams by comfortable margins. 7 Girls' athletics for the post three years, has been regarded as on asset rather than c stepchild, to the Choctaw school. We feel that girls' physical education is just as necessary os boys' physical education: consequently, equal time ond effort are spent with each. Results with the girls have been most pleasing. The girls' grade, junior high and senior high basketball ond trock teams have in the past two years added ten new trophies to the trophy cose. The senior girls' basketball team played 31 games this year, winning all but three. These losses were to McLoud, 3 points: to Geary, I point, and to Byng, 3 points. This gives the girls the best basketball record in the history of the school. Although competitors all year have had the advantage of being more rongy than they, the Choctaw senior girls won the Oklahoma County Conference, the Okla- homa County Tournoment, the District Tournament and went to the Regional finals without c defect. ln the Regional finals our girls took ci 25-22 drubbing from the more rongy Byng girls, even so, we ore proud of the i946 team for its good sportsmanship and skill- ful playing. CHOCTAW GIRLS AND HARRAH BOYS WIN COUNTY TOURNAMENT Choctaw girls and Harrah boys became county champions for 1946 last Saturday night when the Choctaw girls defeated the Luth- er girls 31-28 in the finals and ll-Igarrah boys defeated Putnam 32- Harrah, Choctaw, Dale, Winners In Dist. Tourney The Harrah Panthers, the Dale Pirates, and the Choctaw Gremli- nettes were crowned as Class B Bxoys, Class C Boys, and the Girls Division Champions, respectively, of District No. 30, in the Harrah G m Saturday night. ,Last year's State Champions, the Choctaw Gremlinettes, dis- played championship basketball throughout the entire tourna- ment, particularly in downing the very strong State Center Girls in the final game. Defeating the Dale Girls 30-17, Thursday night, the Choctaw Sextette met Jones in the semi-finals, Friday night. In a game which featured super- lative ball-handling, the Jones Girls were unable to outscore the Gremlinette and were defeated 19-11. ,In the other semi-final gaime, the closest game of the tournament was enacted as the State Center Girls defeated the Luther Sextette 28-27. By de- feating the State. Center Club.
