“All the world over, people have to be free,” is basic to our American philosophy of living. Freedom of action and Freedom of thought carry with it a burden of obligation. Although through birthright you, as a citizen, have many rights and privileges guaranteed, the maintenance of these same rights and privileges becomes an individual effort. So as not to encourage a state of complete freedom where each citizen is free to do to another as he pleases, our system has been designed to include a burden of obligation under which each citizen is placed. You will now proceed to another of the many stages in your lifetime. 1 suggest you take time out to examine and know yourself as well as what immediately stands before you. This is not an easy task because it requires that you become critical. Success as a critic is dependent upon the degree to which you can apply knowledge and judgement to matters before you. 1 believe we are entering an age of uncertainty. Keenness of mind and sensitivity to things that touch upon you, coupled with a compassion for another, are what I believe to be some of those things that help a person to “make it” in this world. So, let each become what he is capable of. Guard your rights and privileges by assuming your obligation. To do otherwise may result in their loss. Appreciate the value of experience and knowledge. Listen to the experiences of others and be critical. Peter T. Sweet To The Class of 1974: It is a pleasure for me, through the use of your yearbook, to offer my congratulations to you upon your graduation from high school. I am sure that most of you look upon your graduation as the open door through which you pass to a new and exciting period in your life. I sincerely hope this will be a most profitable and enjoyable time in your life. Sincerely yours, Charles F. Seamans Assistant Principal Jr.-Sr. High School 5

Senior Class of 1974: 1 take this opportunity to congratulate each one of you upon your graduation from Chittenango Central School. I would much rather congratulate you individually upon your individual achievements, but this becomes impossible with the growing number of seniors in our district. You have had many successes while in high school and we hope you will make full use of your strengths and talents in the future so that you may reach your aspirations. My heartiest best wishes for you in the future and hope you have many successes. Sincerely, Robert J. Hughes Superintendent of Schools Dear Class of 1974, We are coming to another graduation. “Another one” for many of us, but “the one” for you. And because it is yours, I would like to reflect on you and your times. You have witnessed your federal government shaken to its very foundations by a variety of questionable activities. You have been forced to rub shoulders with a youthful society that has damaged itself by the use of harmful escapes. You come from homes, churches, and a school where you have been taught a code flavored with honesty, fairness, and love. You have been associated with a faculty that has shown a concern for young people. You have had an opportunity to take part in school activities that allowed for leadership, fellowship, and a spirit of competition. So as you leave. I have confidence in you as people. Men and women who will see trying times, but who will also use your foundation to make things just a little better for all of us. Congratulations upon your accomplishment of this goal. Best wishes to you and your families on this memorable occasion. You are always welcome back. Sincerely, Warren E. Jerome High School Principal

Special Appreciation Mr. Pashley, also known as Pash, has been a guiding light for C.C.S. students for many years as our teacher, as our advisor for the Palladium, FFA, and other activities, as a coach of wrestling, and even as the inspiration for the C.C.S. mascot, the Bear. His presence of mind and wisdom will be a great loss to us. As our parting wish we thank him for his persever- ance in all our endeavors. Dedication Mr. DiCristina is a man of great importance to Chit- tenango. As athletic director he has stepped into and contributed to the lives of all of us. In appreciation the Class of ‘74 dedicates the Palladium to him. 6
