Since man is a social being we feel that he must direct all his energies and powers beyond the realm of his per- sonal world to the amelioration of society. To this end we have selected the theme of the 1966 Palla- dium which like the Goddess of Wisdom, for which this yearbook is named, we hope this will be our guide through life. “ONE FOR ALL AND ALL FOR ONE” 3 WNDR??? We, the Class of 1966, wish to express our deepest thanks and gratitude to Miss Sheehan, our advisor, by dedicating our year- book to her. Julius who? Never heard of him. Alio! Le central? To the Seniors of 1966: First, my most sincere congratulations to you for your accomplishment in grad- uating from Chittenango Central School. This is an achievement in your life that will long be remembered. It is a starting point on which you should now build and develop your talents for the future. Second, your parents and guardians have provided you with the background, support, and interest which has brought success within your reach. Now, you must prove the confidence they have placed in you. Third, your school district has arranged for you to have the best possible facul- ties and facilities for your education over the past years. Your preparation in subject matter and citizenship education has placed you well on the way to success- ful occupational and educational objectives. Your interest and achievement, your family group and your community back- ing has all been in your favor through these early years of learning. Make use of all three now to attain greater heights of achievements and goals which you have set for yourself. Again, my personal best wishes to you. Sincerely, Robert J. Hughes Supervising Principal 6 To the Class of 1966: The upcoming commencement exercises will mark a beginning as the term indicates. Though we often think of this day as an end, it is really a link between past experiences and future under- takings. For this is the story of life. We will come to many “endings”, but when looking up we find it the commencement of another venture usually more important and of greater difficulty than that which was just finished. Foundations laid from past experiences be- come the cornerstones of future judgement, cour- age, and faith. I hope each of you have laid your foundations firmly so that such cornerstones may be more easily formed for your future undertak- ing in higher education, work, marriage, and life in general. As to classes before, my best wishes go with you also. But with the Class of 1966, I hold a greater confidence in your futures. Maybe it’s because we came to junior high school at the same time and have seen these six years through together. But maybe it is something special from each of you that gives me this confidence in your class. In departing, let me wish you and your fami- lies well. Congratulations on a successful ending and best wishes for a new beginning. Sincerely, Warren E. Jerome High School Principal To the Graduating Class of 1966: I am sure that you, as have many who have gone before you, have approached graduation with mixed feelings. Sadness, joy, fear, anticipa- tion are all intermixed as the school year draws to a close and the reality of “after high school” is actually at hand. This ending of high school brings you to an important cross-road in your travel through life. Be sure to seek wise council and use good judge- ment in choosing the direction of travel from this point in your life. Charles F. Seamans Assistant Principal 7 OUR STAFF: BEFORE AFTER: L to R: C. FOREIGN STUDENT IS AMMED ALI FROM ETHIOPIA One of the most beneficial and active organiza- tions in C.C.S. is the American Field Service. This School-Community sponsored club has stretched its bonds from Europe to Central America, from Afri- ca to South America, and from Turkey to the Philippines. A.F.S. Club raises 'money both for the aid of foreign students here in Chittenango and for pros- pective A.F.S. participants. The excellent program provided for by the club has been appreciated by the entire school through their motto of: “Walk together, talk together, 0 ye peoples of the earth, then and only then shall ye have peace.” Class f-U tmj Twelve years of school life have quickly passed, but not without leaving lasting impressions and memories that we will carry with us throughout our entire lives. After eight years of preparation we entered High School. As Freshman class of- ficers we elected: Dan Hughes, President; Judy Brown, Vice President; Ruth Dar- ling, Secretary; and George Penrose, Treasurer. In September we sponsored a roller skating party which, though meeting with only modest success, was the first of many fund-raising projects. As Freshmen we began to formulate our personal plans for the future, and to take the courses which would best prepare us for our goal, whether it be college, one of the services or a job immediately after graduation. Our Sophomore year presented us with something new in the way of tests; our first Regents exams (Though some of us had taken Earth Science the year before.). Our class project was the Sophomore Talent Show which was a great success. Having passed our first real “siege” of Regents exams, we became Juniors. The social high- point of the year for us was, of course, the Junior Prom. As Juniors we also spon- sored the musical put on by the chorus, “Calamity Jane,” which was well attended. Our class officers were: Dick Keville, President; Betty Brilbeck, Vice President; Emarae Edick, Secretary; and Barbara Birdsall, Treasurer. Suddenly we found ourselves Seniors. After some preliminary preparations the previous year we now began to get down to the serious task of choosing a college or trade school. There were applications to be filled out, interviews with admissions officers, and conferences with our guidance counselors. In the meantime there were still grades to be kept up (Or maybe brought up) and such events as the Paper Drive (A great success) and the Senior play “Exit the Body.” For the class thespians, life became an endless swirl of rehearsals, memorizing lines, make-up, costumes and scenery, all under the direction of Mr. Knapp. Yes, we have all of these memories to carry with us and yet there is still much to anticipate—the Senior Ball, and finally, Graduation. In looking back over the past four years it would be hypocritical to say we enjoyed “every minute of it.” Obviously there are some of us who can’t wait to get out. We all realize there is more to educa- tion than reading poetry or memorizing math formulas. High School is meant to be a preparation for life; to help us cope sensibly with the multitude of problems we will have to face someday. Therefore the class of ’66 would like to thank the faculty and everyone else who have tried to instill in us a set of values which will give us the best chance of success when we leave here. The Senior class of CCS believes they’ve done a pretty good job. There can be no peace ... in this world until there is honor and respect of one in- dividual for another.
