But we find that we are stuck with it, To seek and find and show. Amid a chorus of applause, We wend our way from there. From those learned and hallowed halls, To futures uncertain as the air. We’ve worked four years, that’s four Rungs up the ladder of success. Who knows how many more to go, After we leave old C. C. S? Our year book made predictions, Accurate as they may seem. But fate can find so many ways, In which to intervene. So, with prometheus unbound and spirit free, Our minds will take us far or near, No matter what the case may be, All through life we’ll never fear. CLASS HISTORY The curtain was going up on the first act. The time was September 1949. The place was the Freshman room. The first scene was the election of class officers. Lee Button was elected President; Martin Boylan, Vice-President; Philip Seamans, Secretary; and Harvey Lanphear, Treasurer. The second act took place in the Sophomore room the following fall. The first scene again showed the election of officers, this time under the leadership of Mr. Teeter. Ethel Hills became President; June Urciuoli, Vice-President; Marilyn French, Secretary; and Shirley Allen, Treas- urer. The second scene was the next February in the C.C.S. gym. The event was a dance The February Special. Chuck Bush’s Orchestra furnished the music. The setting for the third act was in the Junior room. The first scene showed Philip Seamans as President; Wilda Markle as Vice-President; Grace Allen as Secretary and Janis Mohorter as Treasurer. The time of the second scene was May 23 1952. The Junior Prom was being held with Grace Allen as Chairman and Wilda Markle as Co-chairman. The theme was Apple Blos- som Time. The last act began in the Senior room September 1952. In the first scene Irving Smith was elected President; Joyce Vining, Vice-President; Marilyn French, Secretary; and Billy Kesler, Treasurer. The second scene showed the gym decorated with the theme Blue Tango for the Senior Ball. The last scene is now being played, the time is June 1953 the place is the C.C.S. auditorium. We have enjoyed being the main characters in this play. It has been lots of hard work and lots of fun too. Now as the curtain is coming down on the last scene we know we’ll remember these four major acts in our life. CLASS PROPHECY I got home on a furlough just in time to be invited to a party at Mrs. Olmsted, nee Ann Bixby. have been a commissioned officer in the Air Force. I graciously accepted the invitation because 1 was interested in finding out what my classmates were doing. Wh'n 1 gW thCre’ Wh° sh°Uld gr'et m' but MrS Sattler- Sattler was formerly Grace Allen. She told me that she was busy doing the housework and raising potatoes down on the muck. I went inside and there was Irving Smith all dressed up in a salesman’s suit. He went into the insurance business right after he graduated from school and now he has a company of his own. He informed me that he was planning on enlarging it now. He also told me that he had seen Bob Koegel while on a business trip. Bob is in the Navy and he likes it so well that he is going to make it a career. Irving said that Bob was really enjoying himself. He has a girl in every port. Carol Case was sitting over in the corner so I wandered over and talked to her for a while. She is a model in New York and seems to be doing quite well at it. During the course of the con- versation I asked her what her brother, Jerry, was doing. I discovered that he and his father have gone into the trucking business together. Later in the evening I had a chance to talk with Gil Sandholzer. He has finished at Utica Col- lege and is now a contractor building houses with his father. Gil had just come back from a trip through New England. While there he saw John McKinstry in Vermont. John finally got himself married and is doing quite a bit of bear hunting up in the forests of Vermont. Janis Mohorter, whom we see most every day, has opened a Hair Dressing establishment here in Chittenango. Eleanor Weeks, who was also at the party, has finished her training at Syracuse General and now is Head Nurse there. Eleanor also told me that Wilda Markle had finished her studies at a Dramatic School in New York City and was going to start a series of television shows. Eleanor also told me that Pat Taylor was employed by Syracuse General as a dietition. Billy Kesler and Chuck Austin arrived in town from Governour in time for Ann's party. Billy always was interested in Northern New York State and finally convinced Chuck that he could find something up there that would interest him also. Shirley Allen and Ethel Hills have opened a nursing home for the aged up on Ethel's Father's farm. We don't see very much of Harvey Lanphear anymore since he bought a racing car and races out at Indianapolis. Last year he won the big 500 mile race. The other day I met Virginia Catlin on the street. She informed me that she had entered Mor- risville Tech but had met a good looking farmer and had decided to be a farmer's wife. Donelle Howard completed her course at C.C.B.I. and is now the school secretary. Mary Pat McDonald and Pat Dwyer are both working in Syracuse at Grant's. After Miss Teachout finished her teaching career here at Chittenango Central Joyce Vining moved in and took her place. We all had a good time at the party and I found out quite a bit of information about my fellow classmates. The other classmates that missed the party really missed a good time. We all knew where Tom Daly was. We were not surprised to hear that Tom Daly had enlisted in the Marine Corps. He is now a Recruiting Officer. Wayne Austin and Bob McCombie have gone into the farming business together. Pete Case is now working with a Syracuse firm as draftsman. Barbara Haynes finished her business course. She has moved from this area and reports say she is married. Kay Strasser is now Mrs. Butler and has a set of twins to keep her busy. The other day I had to go see my lawyer and who should be sitting at the receptionist's desk but Bernice Sternberg. When I was planning my next year's vacation I noticed that one of the hotels listed was owned and operated by Marilyn French. Pat Papa has given her services to a doctor in Syracuse. She is employed as a medical sec- retary. Pat Jardine has finished school at Morrisville and June Urciuoli has finished kindergarten at Cobleskill. Pat is the dietician and June is the kindergarten teacher at Chittenango Central. Mrs. Smith, nee Virginia Armlin, is living in Syracuse and raising a fine family. The last time I visited with Sue Cromp she told me that she was thinking about going to New York to become a model. Well, in my nosy fashion I found out what my classmates were doing. I think they have done pretty well, don't you. We have been most interested in making the Student Council more beneficial to the students. We sponsored the first dance of the season. Money from this dance was used to purchase new records for Vic Dances in the future. In March, Father Andrew J. Brady S. J., who is Student Counselor at LeMoyne College, was invited to speak to the students on how the Student Council should be run and how it benefits them. After the Baseball and Football uniforms are worn a few times, they are badly in need of washing. Therefore the main project of the Student Council has been to raise money for a wash- ing machine. This year we were happy to have been able to set aside money for this fund. We have all enjoyed our offices in the Student Council and hope that we have proved worthy of the office to which we were elected. PALLADIUM 1ST ROW: S. Allen, W. Morkle, J. Mohorter, G. Several of the girls attended the Fall Rally in Utica at Proctor High School in October, 1952, and the Spring Rally in Poland, New York, at Poland Central School in April. We also attended Cornell Farm and Home Week during March and a good time was had by all. We had a fashion show in May which was a big success. A tr ts FUTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA 1ST ROW: B. Sahm, B. Our High School Chorus sang The Building of a Ship at our fall concert. It was different and lots of fun! At Christmas time our Carols were woven in the story Littlest Angel. The story grew to be loved by all. The Spring Concert included many spring songs of love, plus the presentation of Ballad for Americana. High School Chorus attended Sherrill Concert and had a day of fun, work, and sore throats!! Boy! how the music teachers made us work! Our Boys’ Octet and Special Girls’ Chorus made several public appearances and assisted in our assembly programs. The 9th Grade Girls and Boys are really super. Another year of training and a new school! Come hear us in the new school. SPECIAL GIRLS' CHORUS 1ST ROW: J. Vining, P. Jardine. 2ND ROW: J. Urciuoli, H. Goodfellow, P. Conley. 3RD ROW: W. Morkle, E. Director: Miss Teachout INSTRUMENTAL GROUPS The Junior and Senior bands at Chittenango Central School have performed several times dur- ing this school year. The Senior band's first appearance was at Thanksgiving time, performing with the chorus. The second time it performed, just before Christmas, its ranks were aug- mented by the members of the Junior band. At the March concert in addition to the Junior and Senior band playing, two new organizations performed, the clarinet quartet and the brass choir. The Senior band also had an outdoor concert in May playing most of the selections which they later played at the annual Madison-Oneida Music Festival at Sherrill. This Spring the Senior band had a new experience, it began learning to march. We hope to have a marching football band next year or as soon as possible. There were quite a number of beginners this year, so many in fact that we started a third band, to give these children a chance to get acquainted with some of the requirements it takes to play in a group. We hope that this beginning band will provide the foundation so that we will be able to have an even better Junior and Senior band in the near future. Interest in the band seems to be growing; many interested pupils were unable to start instru- mental lessons because of a limited number of instruments and a limited amount of time that could be devoted to giving beginners lessons. One project that the band has started this year is a campaign to get new uniforms. With pro- ceeds from concerts, the help of the PTA and the board, we hope to have those new uniforms someday. At present we have about 20 members in our Senior band. We hope to see this growing into a 50 60 members band in the next year or two. Although much has been accomplished this year we hope that the future will be even brighter for the instrumental music department. BEGINNERS BAND 1ST ROW: M. Nesbitt, S. Vandenberg, C. Breed, A. Goodfellow, V. Meyers, C. Boeckle, D. Potter, N. Cooper. This year six cheerleaders and one substitute were chosen for the Varsity Cheerleaders. This arrangement proved successful. The squad in new reversible uniforms of red and black did a fine job and had a lot of fun cheering for the boys under the guidance of Mrs. Marvin. The J.V. Cheerleaders were chosen in the same manner as the Varsity but two girls left the squad and Pauline Rhinehart was chosen by the Varsity Cheerleaders to fill in the vacancy. There was no substitute. Later on in the season Anita Luyk moved away leaving five on the squad, but even with this handicap the girls did a fine job. They wore red and black uniforms and were also under the guidance of Mrs. Marvin. J. V. CHEERLEADERS Left to Right: F. Bryant, P. Rhinehart, J. Taylor, C. Worlock, P. Koagel. BASEBALL 1ST ROW: C. All of these materials are still widely used, but, in this century, there has opened what might well be called the ALUMINUM AGE. Aluminum, a bluish-white metal, is corrosion resistant, non- magnetic, a good conductor of electricity and has but one-third the weight of Iron. Discovered in 1727 it was not separated as a pure metal until 1825 and 100 years ago was still a laboratory curiosity costing over $500.00 a pound. In the middle of the nineteenth century it was looked upon al- most as a precious metal and Napolean III, Emperor of France, had an entire table service made from it. There is a record of a Parisian jeweler in the 1870’s advertising opera glasses with the choice of either Platinum or an Aluminum case at the same price. By 1885 Aluminum had dropped to about $5.00 a pound, and in that year the discovery by C. M. Hall of the electrolytic re- duction process opened the gate to cheap quantity production of the metal so that by 1900 the price was $.33 per pound. Now the price is $.225 per pound. Today there is a demand in America alone for three billion pounds of Aluminum per year and products made from this metal are found in airplanes, ships, automobiles, and buses and a great new market is now opening for it in business and residen- tial construction. At PRECISION we have been producers of die castings in Aluminum for over 40 years and the range of products made from Aluminum is almost limitless. Among the more common die cast applications are parts for compressors, pumps, houshold appli- ances, sewing machines, television, machine tools, typewriters, laundry equipment, radios, aircraft engines, automobiles, stoves and ranges, lighting fixtures, dental instruments, athletic goods and military and naval supplies. We are proud to have participated in the development of Alum- inum products in this new era and can see in the ALUMINUM AGE an expanding horizon for this useful metal once more costly than GOLD.
