Class Poeta At last graduation has arrived, To please those who have survived Those long and weary, dreary hours, Which help us reach our longed-for powers. All about us is joy and delight, For this is indeed a happy night Because after Twelve long years, We've gained our goal, it appears. Many times past, when we’ve hated our toil, Our friends, the instructors, remained loyal. Soon we will be going out on our own. Whether it be in a crowd or all alone: Most will succeed, and few will fall By the wayside or near the wall. Because we have the drive and determination To help us reach our wanted destination. And so, dear friends, (we have no foes) As our high schooling comes to a close. We, the graduating class of fifty, Which is really quite neat and nifty, Wont to wish you all “ Forewell And say “Thanks” for being swell. Patricia Whipple 1. Rub a dub dub, Janet in a tub. 2. Class History Tonight as we appear here before you, our thoughts are on the future, but let us pause for a moment and look back at the four preceding years. In September of '46, thirty-one lively Freshmen under the guidance of Mrs. Pickett made their debut in high school. We chose Richord DeVries, president; William Everson, vice president; Margaret Naymik, secretary; and Lyle Stedman, treasurer. Annabel Collins left us in December] but Beverly Mohorter joined us in March. John Fox, Frank Case and James Devendorf participated •t J-V. basketba 11. John Fox, Franklin Case, Jim Devendorf and Richard DeVries played baseball. When we returned to school in September of '47, our class was enlarged to 35 by the addition of William Devine, Albert Devine, and Alan Francis. We elected George Finck, president; Richard DeVries, vice president; Janet Batten, secretary; and Janice May, treasurer. Under the direction of a new teacher, Miss Coyle, class spirit was instilled into our ranks. The social event of the year was the Sophomore Soiree with Ernie Carpenter's Orchestra. A good time was had by all. One of our members, Lyle Stedman, was elected to the Student Council. Mony of the boys par- ticipated in sports and were ably cheered on by Liz Beemen, our Sophomore cheerleader. Bill Dev ine was elected ring chairman and we selected our class rings. In September of 48, we returned to school as upper classmen under the guidance of Miss Ben- son. We elected William Devine, president; Janet Batten, vice president; Margaret Naymik, sec- retary; and Janice May, treasurer. In October, we received our class rings and also had a dance with music furnished by Charlie Gregg's Orchestra. Liz Beeman, Al Devine, and Janet Batten represented us on the Student Coun- cil. Wanda Zinn and Shirley Hoxsie joined us during the year, while we lost Fred Caswell, Mary- ella Hubbs, Eunice Bender, and Joan Watkins. We collected papers and sold pencils to raise funds for our Junior Prom. In preparation for the great event, we chose Liz Beeman Prom Choirman and Lyle Stedman Co-Chairman. It was pre- sented in May with Bill Martin's Orchestra furnishing the music. We chose “Mardi-Gras os our theme. A wonderful time was had by all. Our class was again well represented in activities and Janet Batten joined Liz Beeman in helping to cheer on the boys. We selected Franklin Case to represent us at boys’ state and Janice May to represent us at girls’ state. In September 1949, 26 lofty Seniors entered school for the last time. We elected Lyle Stedman, president; George Finck, vice president; Margaret Naymik, secretary; and Janice May, treasurer. Bill Devine, Liz Beeman, Janet Batten, Lyle Stedman, and Janice May represented us on the Student Council. In accordance with a new tradition, we held our Senior Ball on November 19, 1949 with Fred Vare’s Orchestra. Liz Beeman was Senior Ball Chairman and Janet Batten was Co-Chairman. Bill Devine was elected editor of our school newspaper, “Whispers . Our class was again well represented in all activities and Shirlee Sadler, Rita Covey, Wanda Zinn joined Janet Batten and Liz Beeman on the cheerleading squad. The senior boys were well represented in all sports. Al Devine and Franklin Case participated in the All Star Basketball game at Oneida. Janet Batten wos elected editor of the Palladium and Bill Devine assistant editor. And now I refer you to this Palladium for a better knowledge of our activities during our years in high school. Now our pastis fading from view and our thoughts are again focused on the future, but in suc- ceeding years, we will look through our Palladium and again recall our happy high-school days. George Finck Class Prophecy As I, Swanie Wanie, gaze into my crystal ball I see glimpses of the future of the class of 1950. I see Harry Watkins, Al Devine, and Jerry Olmsted gathered in the Bachelor Barn” arguing over the chores. Harry is being accused of spending too much time with the TV set. Jerry killed another cow trying to put a window in it. He never got over that trip to Cornell. Al spends too much time shooting baskets. I see Paul Potatoe DeMario repeating his English class performance on the raising of po- tatoes. He is in the chips (potato). • I see Gordon Gault inventing a new ‘Comfie Dumfie” television chair. He hopes this will increase his sales so he can buy a house. I see California still has their state line guarded. They must have heard that John Fox and Bob Cull are on their way. I see George Finck was almost discharged from the Forest Rangers. They say he spends most of his time fishing. I see Flavin's Pharmocy isn’t paying off too well. How could it when Gene spends hours waiting on his best customer, Audrey Wiltsie? I see Franklin Case and Mary Hudgins have made the headlines with their discovery of the new “C. C. S.” bomb. I see Kit Collins rushing the songs on his radio program so he can go home and baby sit. Wanda has another business meeting to attend. I see Lyle Stedman has to either make a choice among his girls or move to Arabia where harems are legal. I see Professor William Devine and two of his faculty, Miss May and Miss Batten, in confer- ence ot Dumbell School. They are trying to decide whether to expell John Jr. and Bob Jr. I see Mabel Kingsley, Pat Whipple, Margaret Naymik, and Rita Covey working at Wanda’s Wax Works. Now that Rita is working at the switchboard, it’s cheaper to call Cazenovia. Maggie, Mabel and Pat are loaded down with typing, but they still have time to talk. I see Carol Dibble arranging Audrey’s hair. The hair style goes very well with the perfume she gets at a discount. Carol’s rates are high, but they have to be to feed thirty dogs. I see Elizabeth Beeman tending to her ten little Harts. Liz is still practicing to be a ballet dancer. I see Shirley Sadler’s boss, the doctor, is having knee trouble. Slut will have to go on a diet. We also made plans for a school talent show, but due to spring rush, we lacked the time. We were successful in obtaining much needed mirrors for the basements and shower rooms. We have a new system for keeping order in the halls. Four persons (moni- tors) are posted in the hall to keep two lines moving in opposite directions and to prevent confusion. Our semi-monthly meetings have been very successful and we made many people happy selling coke at the games. We purchased a new F.F.A. banner and had to get a new coke machine after wearing one out. Mr. Pashley, Albert Devine, and Donald Collins represented our school in a cooperative meeting at North Syracuse. The F.F.A. went to Ithaca on March 21 where they visited the Farm and Home Week at Cornell University. We left the school at 6:10 A.M. and arrived about 8:25. We found our way to Roberts Hall where we registered and spent the rest of the morning looking at exhibits and demonstrations. At 1 :00 P.M., we went to the Artificial Breeding plant and were shown around. We left Ithaca about 5:00 P.M. and stopped in Cortland for something to eat. We got back to the school around 7:45, well tired out from the miles of walking we had done. Plans were started for a Father and Son banquet which was held April 25, 1950. 1. LifesaverM 2.
