Cross Country Runners Excel lf the 1978 Cross-Country season could be summed up in one word it would be success . The word applies not only to the over-all team gains, but also the many individual achievements. Both the boy's and the girl's teams had winning records, 10-5 and 4-3 respectively. Each brought a first place trophy home to Chippewa, the boys in the Notre Dame Invitational and the girls in the Macomb County Invitational. Many individuals also received personal recognition. Gary Lukas not only won the Notre Dame invitational, but was undefeated in dual meets, selected to the All-Macomb County Cross-Country team, co-Most Valuable Player in the Oakland A , and a State finalist. Gregg Lukas, hot on his brother's heels, was also a State finalist. Three of Chippewa's girls, Lynda Herman, Michelle Roberts and Wendy Laise also made the All-County team. Lynda went on at Regional competition to become a State finalist. . Golf Team Looks Good This years Golf Team shows quite a bit of depth as far as its players go. The seniors on the team were joe Earhart, Kevin Schill and Matt Honos. juniors included Shawn Trauer, Tom Ulrich and jerry Rizzo. Gary Hanton, a freshman, also earned his varsity letter as well. Outstanding golf by Tom Ulrich earned him the honor of All League. joe Earhart also played good golf during the season, he was selected All-League honorable mention. This years team had a 3-5 league record, and an 8-7 overall record. 2 3 l i 1
