Spirit Shines Through Cheerleaders. Yes, that's what they are. The 1979 rah-rahs have once again risen the spirits at Chippewa sky high, and with the help of Miss Kaye Paul they have tried to bring some fight to the Big Reds' sport season. The squads this year have grown considerably with Varsity having 10, junior Varsity 10 and the Freshman have 8. The '79 cheerleader captains were: Varsity: Andrea Craner, junior Varsity: Carmella Tanoury and Lisa Shanahan, and Freshman: Barb Shandor. Who exactly are the matmaids? Many might ask. Well, they are a group of 7 girls that work along with the wrestling team keeping scores, announcing, and raising spirits at the wrestling meets. The girls are kind of an off branch of the cheerleaders and are run by Mr. Savel. The matmaid captain this year was Terry Hauer.
