Girls Track ls Exception The 1978 Girls' Track team has a list of accomplishments almost as long as its list of members. With the largest number of participants in Chippewa's four year history of girls' track, the coaches saw great potential in the team. Under the supervision of coaches Dan Phillips and Larry Birch, the team demonstrated its worth. With an overall record of 9-0 and an Oakland A record of 6-0, the team had established a name for itself. The team won the Oakland ALL League Meet, the Mt. Clemens City Championship, and the Romeo Invitational. Ten members qualified for the State Finals. Ten school records and two Oakland A records were set. The team also set a new record in scoring over 100 points five times in the dual meet season. 1 il yu I .Qi- .:,, 4 --., .s.a,,,.,,, , gr

Young Team Gains Experience The freshman baseball team combined good talent and positive attitude to produce one of the most successful freshman teams in many years. The team attended the Cincinatti-Detroit Tiger's exhibition game, the High School Athletic Association Clinic at Tiger Stadium, and finished the season with the best record of a freshman team in the Oakland A league lboth in winning percentage and total victoriesl. The success we experienced was due entirely to a complete, unselfish team effort. It would be contrary to the team concept we stressed to single out particular performers. All were valuable and necessary. Nevertheless, a good foundation has been established, for future Big Red teams. We are proud of our freshman baseball players. '.,,4nul7' 4 A 3
