Chippewa's Drama Club is not exactly a novice at competition. In 1976 they won the district one-act competition with their production of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf and they captured another first in 1977 with Seascape , This years' win however, was a very special accomplishment for the Drama Club. When the troupe was awarded the first place trophy this time, they became the first high school in Macomb County to win the district competition three consecutive years. ln addition, their production of Dark of the Moon earned seven superior awards. The individual awards were for superior acting, make-up, costume design, and set design. ln the critique session, which is conducted by three university theatre professors, Chippewa was praised for their professional approach towards all phases of theatre and for their courage in attempting a sophisticated and difficult selection. The troupe however, was.not the only winner this year. The high school drama directors throughout the state honored Chippewa's own director, Miss Stephanie Konrad, by electing her to the State Board of Drama Directors for a two year term. Miss Konrad was opposed by Southfield-Lathrup's director. This is the first time in twelve years that a high school director from Macomb County has been chosen for this position. Neither the Drama Club nor the director have had much time to enjoy their winnings, for almost all of the cast members are involved in forensic competition. They will be travelling to places as: Stephenson High School, Brighton High School, Seaholm High School and Birch Run High School for competitions. Two trophies have already been captured at the 3gDearborn Edsel Ford Tournament. lt just may also be a record breaking forensic season for the pattern has certainly been established by these dedicated, talented and committed young adults. The Drama Club as well as the Forensic Team have brought to Chippewa High School respect and recognition. lt is a reflection of the pride these students have in their high school land its excellent programs. As one member stated, It becomes 'increasingly obvious to us as we travel to other schools, just how fortunate we are to be a part of Chippewa's terrific speech qprogram.
