VARSITY BA TMEN The 1978 Chipp Varsity Baseball team was faced wih the challenge of capturing the W.C.L. crown for two years in a row. The squad, coached by Denny Lloyd, produced a season to be proud of. Compiling a 14-5 overall and 10-4 league record was good enough to finish second in the league. The season, extreme- ly tense at times, was a hard fought battle for first place. At one point in the season four squads were tied for the number one position. Having defeated top contenders Norwayne and Rittman twice, the title rode on the last game against Hillsdale, a win would assure the Chipps the championship. A highly emotional and disappointing game for the Chipps gave the Falcons a 64 vic- tory. Finishing only behind Rittman in the league, Doylestown shared the second place spot with Northwestern. Receiving awards were Senior Jerry Huffman who was voted as Best Pitcher, Best Offensive Player, and Most Valuable Player. Dave Roach, Senior letterman, earned the Coach,s Award. . -..t' wr- . 3 . 52 , 4 , , . p y. A RQ An alert opponent makes it impossible for first baseman Dave Stockwell to make a pick-off play. RESER VE S The 1978 Reserve baseball team, coached by Rob Marshall, compiled a 4-5 league and 4-9 overall record. Consisting of many rookies, the team was lacking ex- perience. As the season progressed, the quality of play improved. Despite many cancelled games as a result of rainy weath- er, these young Chipps gained valuable insight for their future years playing Var- sity ball. , , f A. fy,-W ug - K , . x, RESERVE BASEBALL: Front Rowg M.
