CHALLENGE ON CINDERS The '77-'78 Boys Track team had a season to be proud of. They won first place honors at the Smithville Night Relays, the Doylestown Invitational, and the Clay- mont Relays. Freshman and Sophomore boys and girls won the WCL combined team score. The dual meet record was 4-1. Nine boys qualified for districts. The Most Improved Award went to Jerry Underwoodg Total Points and Most Valuable Field to Kirk Carpenterg Most Valuable Runner went to Phil Sales, Most Dedicated went to Jeff Grigsbyg Tony Williams got the Coaches Award. ON THE RIGHT TRACK This year there were many changes for the girls track team. There was a new coach and all the girls and guys meets were run together. The girls finished first in the county and sectional meets, and sent two girls to the state track meet, Carol Boyan and Sandy Na8Y, who finished fourth and sixth respectally. 1 n r The team has a fully set of stretching excercises that they use. Jackie Butz- er loosens up so she is ready to run. x 3 ., L. ' So as not to get disqualified Carol Boyan and Beth Myatt, members of the 440-yard relay team, listen to the starter's instructions. l The set position is a moment of anticipation. Carol Boyan, the lead off runner of the 440-yard relay, gets set for the gun. The placement of the baton is important in any relay, Norma Hoff hands off to Joan Shultz during the mile relay. The hand offs are important, but so is what happens betweeng Judi Williams takes the baton around the curve in the 880 relay.
