DISTANCE WITH DIS TINC TION Many miles and long practices were the key to the successful season for the girls and boys cross country teams. The girls, running for their second year, ended the season with a 5-0 record. They ran in five invitationals, mostly against AAA schools, and they gave fine performances in all of them. They took first at the All-Ohio CAAAJ Invitational, which took the place ofa state meet. The boys team finished with a 7-O dual season and this year they had a lot of firsts in the history of Chippewa cross country runnin. For the first time they qualified a team to districts. The team consisted of Jim Rohr, Bruce Steiner, Tom Pappas, Mike Brandenstein, Frank Russell, Dan Racin and Denny Dannemiller. Jim Rohr was the first state qualifier. The special awards given to the runners were: MVR Karen Molnar and Bruce Steiner, MIR Veronica Gromofsky, and Kris Cunard. , . . ' ,W .Lei The practice and dedication pay off for state qualifier Jim Rohr as he strides the length of the home course in hope of another victory for the Chipps team. The first ten places are claimed by Chipps including Keith Anderson, Chris Cook, Jim Fretwell and Todd Shaw at the W.C.L. meet open race held at Chippewa High School this year. A chance for a W.C.L. championship in sight, Denny Dannemiller and Dan Racin concentrate on the final mile and a quarter. Their eleventh and tenth place finishes help win a team championship.

SPIKES WITH SPIRIT Thc 1977 season record for varsity girls volleyball was 5-9. Mrs. Dobney served her third year as head coach. The Chipps began very slowly, opening with four losses. As the season progressed the team began to warm up. and their talents blossomed. They produced a comeback victory over Smithville and won five ofthe remaining ten games. The Chipp netters lost to Fairless. a tough team rated second in the drawings, in high school tournament action at Lake Middle School. 'ttlw .KN slr' Varsity action for Melissa Durbin includes a bump hit with ready help wait- ing from Denise Vanllorn and Lori Young.
