Out of the class of 144, 33 Gold Cord Graduates were honored as the class came together for the last time to hear class speakers and to receive their diplomas. On Thursday, May 24, the yearly awards assembly was held in the gym. Awards were presented in many fields of achievement including biology, physical fitness, music, French and various clubs and activities. Mr. Gerald Reeves of the local American Legion announced the delegates for Boys' and Girls' State to be held this summer. Tom Cunningham and Norm Smith will represent the boys and Cathy Santmyer and Nina Smith will learn how our government operates as the representatives for the girls. The NHS Service Awards went to Freshman: Ann Petit and Terry Petit, Sophomores: Michelle Magier and Don Downs, Juniors: Beth Bailey and Norm Smith, and Seniors: Ruth Browning and Paul Petit. jean Dannemiller and Keith Drollinger were given the Outstanding Senior Award recognizing them for their effort and many hours of work voluntarily done for their class and school. Eric McCallum and jean Dannemiller were this years' recipients of the national Danforth I Dare You award. This award is given as a challenge to the student to continue to serve his community, family and country. The john Philip Sousa Award was created to honor the outstanding graduating senior who has contributed the most in the music field at their school and this year the music teachers and students chose Kathy Petit. Deb Kendig was presented with the first place trophy in the State Typing Contest and will go on to National Com- petition. jim Villers was presented with a partial scholarship to Wayne Technical College. The last recognitions given were in the area of out- standing scholastic achievment as the Valedictorian and Salutatorian were presented to the student body, Carrie Galehouse achieved the highest honor, vale- dictori an, and jean Busson was salutatorian. FAR LEFT TOP Americanism Test Awards were presented by Mr. Reeves and Mr. Harris to Norm Smith and Deb Kendig. MIDDLE Trophies were presented to Eric McCallum by Mr. Shrock for Most Valuable Player, Best Point Average per Event, and Most Dedicated Runner. BOTTOM A Biology award is presented by Mr. Moore to Mark Ludwick. LEFT TOP Boy Eric, you sure got a lot of goodies! BOTTOM County original poetry winner Gail Miller and short story winner Andy Berenyi are congratulated by Miss Sturpe. BELOW Certificates were presented to French students Sue Rohr, Steve Harvey, and Keith Williams by Mrs. Watts. RIGHT TOP A trophy was presented to Frank l-lersm an by Mr. Shrock for being the Most Improved Runner. BOTTOM An award for golf was presented by Mr. McGowan to Terry Petit. 'k 1-ill i , g
