New students were greeted and began a week of orientation. September was full of get acquainted dances, spirited elections, and beginning classes. Then suddenly September was over and we had com- pleted the first month of college for the 1959-60 year. , 'I JJ, These students made their campaign speech es for the Student Government Association elections. October 's trick or treat - Barbara McFatter October. . .classes had become pretty much routine. Sophomores had already become used to be- ing the old timers and the Freshmen had begun to relax and feel a part of CIC. All ofthe campus organizations had begun to function and were busy acquiring new members. The 1960 Indians began practice with high hopes of a win- ning season. Once again Mr. Walt Davis was on our campus making pictures for the CHUUCO. We were privileged to have the Florida Junior College Student Government Association meet on our campus with one of our own students presiding . Campus life at Chipola had really started. But worried does not express the true chara- cter of CJC students for worried was one thing we were NOT. Fall Frolics was the highlight of November and ended with a dance in the Student Center. We danced into the night to the sound of Harry Shepherd 's music. November brought with her our coldest night and it was then the Circle K chose to have a hayride. But we added a few blankets, cuddled close, and had a good time. The humanties division played host to Luktenburg, a famed harpsichordist. We cheered the basketball team as the Indians began a full schedule. President Skaggs entertained in the Student Cen- ter with a dinner for the faculty. Spirits were high as the holiday season approached in spite of all the rush for last minute work on humanities projects and term papers. On the last day of classes we assembled in the auditorium for a most impressive Christmas convocation. President Skaggs read Dicken 's CHRISTMAS CAROL, and we were proud of the Glee Club's rendition of the HALLELUJAH CHORUS. Then everyone said good-bye to the Chipola campus for ' two weeks and good-bye to 1959. Students in the Glee Club relax after a breath -taking performance for the Christmas Convocation. Januar Ianuary. . .a brand new year. . .For several days students at CJC were busy greeting friends and fellow students and discussing their holiday fun. Then once more studies began. Nearly all of us had resolved to party less and study more. . .and that is just what most of us didg for the month of January anyway. Fi- nal exams came upon us in no time and we were busy Ucramming. There was little time left for parties and social events. Cram, cram for final exams! The ball players look sharp in their new coats. 50 Even the instructors study. March - the final copy of the yearbook went to press and the staff sighed with relief, Not so joyful was the resignation of Dr. N. L. Haven to join the staff of the new junior college in Cocoa Beach. Most important were final exams, but there seemed so little time for studying. Sophomores were busy with graduation details and even a little excited, though none would admit it. The Spring picnic was really a hey day for us and as we went home at the end of the day we were tired and sunburned but happy. The Spring Fonnal and the Graduation Ball were the biggest socials in May and from them came many memories.
