1 972 PAW PRINTS CHIPLEY HIGH SCHOOL CHIPLEY, FLORIDA We came . . . We were all here, 530 minds strong-to begin again. To discover new friends, to renew the old, and to live a year of school to the fullest. The years we were leaving behind us were filled with memories of wild sum- mers and freedom. So we settled down away from the past and began to make our future. It was another chance to begin again—to correct mistakes made and to learn from our ex- periences. We were quick to take that chance. For some it was exciting, for some frightening, and for others, bor- ing and repetitious. For those who wanted it, there was plenty of educa- tion available. 4 The student center, os in the past years, was opened to the Seniors at lunch for relaxing, socializing and studying. It was difficult to study during those first weeks when the weather was right for almost anything, except sitting in a stale classroom, but those first football games on Friday nights made those weeks of work almost bearable. Reac- tions to those games were varied-ela- tion . . . surprise . . . apathy. 6 7 6 As the year progressed, each student seemed to find his own place to fit in. Teachers learned students' names and students learned just how much they could get by with. Students became aware of the need to study and to do well in the classroom. Mistakes were made but also attempts to correct them. 12 9P- The search for peace of mind and soli- tude led us to separate ourselves from the music, movement of the crowds, and academic pursuits—Away from the struggles, troubles, and civilization—to find contentment in becoming part of the elements in nature; so desperately quiet but always alive with rhythm and beauty. 14 16 17 “A lily of a day Is fairer far in May Although it fall and die that night— It was the plant and flower of Light. In small proportions we just beauties see; And in short measures life may perfect be.” Ben Jonson We offer this page in memory of CURTIS MALLOY Class of 1951 For he in his short life did give A treasure of joys that will forever live In the hearts of young as well as the old; That we all will cherish and forever hold. La Don Henderson ADMINISTRATION PRINCIPAL-MR. C.C. COLEMAN JR. Mr, C.C. Coleman, Jr. has been the principal of Chiplev High School since 1966. In the traditional homecoming skit, Mother Goose Homecoming, numerous Mother Goose characters were saved from two cowards who attempted to steal the beautifully jeweled crown. A com- edy skit entitled Turkdy Talk was presented at Thanksgiving. In this skit the truth about the origin of Thanksgiv- ing was revealed and in the absence of Thomas K. Turkey a substitute from a substitute from the speech class was called upon. Other programs included Mrs. McGraw Day, the Miss Chipley Pageant, and an unusual Christmas program. The speech class has made memorable contributions to this school year. Vice-President; ond Jim Hicks, Secretory-Treosurer Seated Vincent Loney, President Key Club members took on anti-pollu- tion stand this year by gathering up any kind of discarded aluminum, primarily empty beer cans. At the same time they padded their treasury with those coveted green slips of paper the cans brought in. These twenty young men worked dili- gently serving our school and commu- nity, while competing fiercely for man- hours that would determine which eight members would go on the club’s sec- ond annual trip to Washington, D.C. The two faculty sponsors, Mr. Forehand and Mr. Tiller, made sure that each meeting was conducted in a mature and business-like manner, in keeping with the Key Club standard that its members be moral and academic leaders of our school. 86 First Row Jim Kimbrough, Eddie Newsome, Dennis Hayes, Gory Gilbert. Since the Trampoline Team was orga- nized in 1967, is has offered exciting and daring entertainment at the half- time of each home football and basket- ball game. The team has also jumped at one out-of-town basketball game in Poplar Springs, at the Homecoming Day activities, the National Guard Ar- mory Christmas party, and participated in the Talent Show. The Trampoline Team also performs with the mini- tramp and the mats. This organization has certainly been an asset to our Fine school! Their hard work began even before school started. By attending ICF cheerleading camp at Auburn University, they learned that spirit is the way to do it. The cheerleaders iniated many activ- ities which helped fire up school pride. Old Fashion Spirit Day, along with Corny Week, raised so much spirit that our mighty Tigers won outstanding victories. Nothing great is ever achieved with- out enthusiasm, and our cheerleaders provided all the enthusiasm possible. Long hours of practice coupled with skill, characterized our cheerleaders.
