Homecoming Victory 33-14 Tiger's Standing screaming, singing Alma Mater with new pride. Watching the faces of Queen and Attendants— radiant, wining . . . all chrysanthemums and smiles for everyone, and thinking . . . WE WON. 3 4 October 30, 1970, proved to be one of the days that everybody at CHS enjoyed most. It was Old- Fashioned Spirit Day, the day the cheerleaders sponsor every year for raising spirit. This day has proved itself to be very special for every student who attends Chipley High School, because it is a day to goof off and enjoy dressing funny, while at the same time supporting the football team. The day's activities for the students of CHS really began when each person who chose to dress in the old-time style walked through the doors of that great institution of learning, Chipley High School. Of course, laughter was present in every crowd that day because of some of the funny sights. And who could forget that hilarious pep rally the cheerleaders held at lunch? In fact, so much spirit was raised, our fabulous football team went on to stomp Baker 27-6. Old-Fashioned Spirit Day will never be forgotten by anyone who participated in it. It has become a tradition of Chipley High School. 5 The National Honor Society is composed of juniors and seniors who were chosen as members on the basis of qualities of leader- ship, scholarship, character, and service. New members were selected at the beginning of the school year. After undergoing a funfilled initiation, they were for- mally inducted in a ceremony before the student body. The National Honor Society func- tions as any other club within the school. Activities participated in this year included selling stadium cushions and sponsoring Sadie Hawkins week. It is truly an honor to be a member of such a worthwhile or- ganization. 7 The first MOD (March of Dimes) Talent Show was held this year under the direction of Mrs. H.T. Waller, Home Ec. Teacher. Joan Stanton placed first with a baton- twirling routine. The Cheer- leaders placed second with a pom-pom routine and the Tram- poline Team placed third. The Inter-Club Project, along with a MOD Squad (Beautiful legs) Contest raised a total of $122.00 This money was com- bined with the county's drive money. The money raised this year will go mainly for the research of birth defects and to help unfortu- nate victims in Washington County.  10 The fragrance of freshly picked flowers, the scratch of a pen finishing a drafting problem, a sigh of satisfaction over a com- pleted dress, the roar of an en- gine, the purr of a sewing machine—these reflect many of the sights and sounds of voca- tional education. Students at the Washington- Holmes Area Vocational Tech- nical School learned first-hand skills which would serve them in the future personally and profes- sionally. Air Conditioning Refrigeration, Cosmetology, Auto Body Fender, Farm Machinery Repair, Radio T.V. Repair, Drafting, Office Education, Distributive Ed- ucation, Auto Mechanics, Brick Blocklaying, Horticulture, Car- pentry, Data Processing, Tailoring Industrial Sewing prepared students with the necessary abili- ties for occupational work in the future as well as in the home. li 'T- KL ■ ■ T ' . + r V IM V • u 12 Under the direction of Mrs. Gail Hartzog, the speech class has been responsible for many of the skits and shows presented during the year. In A Homecoming Melodrama , presented during the Homecoming Pep Rally, Dimples Dilbert and her Daddy were saved from the terrible Blountstown Villian by our Super Hero. A Mod America , a patriotic program for Thanksgiving, repre- sented what America means to us as students. We also participated in the Christmas Program. On September 25, the class helped with the Miss Chipley Pageant. In addition to skits and shows, the class has made numerable speeches for various organiza- tions. The students of Chipley High School have truly enjoyed the efforts of the speech class. 13 14 Lunch is a conglomeration of many activities. One of the least favorite, but one in which many people participate, is eating in the lunchroom. However, some people prefer filling their minds over filling their stomachs and spend their lunch time studying. After eating, one could become a spectator to a fantastic volleyball game, if one was being played, or become a participant in the ever- popular sport of fighting bees. There are always those who prefer relaxation after dining, and these may be seen conversing with friends in all parts of the campus. ts CONTENTS ADMINISTRATION........ 18 SENIORS............... 25 SCHOOL LIFE........... 47 ACTIVITIES............. 71 UNDERCLASSMEN......... 103 ATHLETICS............. 131 ADVERTISEMENTS........ 165 17 GRAFFITI Mr. C.C. There has been much improvement under our new director, Mr. H.R. Leas. One of the newer ideas was the formation of a flag corps of 12 girls. The most colorful addition to the band was the new uni- forms. The band participated in many civic affairs and school ac- tivities including the Annual Rodeo Parade held in Bonifay, performed at the football games, marched in the Christmas parade, and were a part of the gigantic Peanut Festival held in Dothan, Alabama. On Nov. 14, the Tiger Band represented CHS at the District Marching Contest, and in the spring they competed against many other bands at the District 2 Concert Contest. CHEERLEADERS HAVE SPIRIT Debbie Carlile, co-captain, Junior 160 161 The 1970-71 varsity cheerleaders have had a busy school year, mainly because of the great foot- ball and basketball teams that this year has produced. But before football season even began, the cheerleaders started preparing for the school year by attending an ICF cheerleading camp at Auburn University. The cheerleaders promoted one of their first spirit raising projects for the Bonifay football game by sponsoring HAT DAY. It turned out to be a good time for all. Then, for the Baker game, the an- nual OLD-FASHIONED SPIRIT DAY was held. Of course, most students dressed in the old- fashioned style and raised so much spirit that we beat Baker 27 to 6. For the eight varsity cheer- leaders, this has been the most rewarding year for Chipley High School. It was a lot of hard work, but it was very rewarding.
