PAW PRINTS 1966 Chipley High School Chipley, Florida 2 A Search for Definition . . . unconfined, free, and restless, a teenager searches for many things. The ever-present feeling of uneasiness must give way to understanding. The challenge of tomorrow must become the ex- perience of today . . . ... in a teenager's search for the deep philosophy of life a part of everything is tested. However, he must decide for himself to what he must shun and to what he must cleave. So fascinated is he by the unexplored areas, and arising questions, that all the world seems an anticipated utopia of his illusions . . . . . . time is the decisive element: time to find out all the knowl- edge in academic life, time to discover a career, time to uncover the definitions to the inquisitive pursuit of the world, time to change a girl into a woman, a boy into a man . . . . . . attempt the end, and never stand to doubt. Nothing's so hard but search will find it out . . . (Robert Herrick) 3 Responsibility is a final exam . . . hours of homework that must be done ... a chemistry experiment that is kind of fun . . . cheering for your team even when it loses . . . buying your school newspaper or voting for Homecoming Queen . . . decorating for a dance and standing up straight for graduation. Loneliness is an empty brick school house ... a waxed tile hall with no scuff prints ... a shiny steel desk devoid of initials . . . smelly new paint in a spic and span room . . . expanses of windows without stu- dents' faces ... a building ... a shell CONTENTS ADMINISTRATION .......... 15 SENIORS.................. 23 JUNIORS ................. 39 SOPHOMORES .............. 49 FRESHMEN................. 57 JUNIOR HIGH.............. 63 FEATURES................. 69 ORGANIZATIONS ........... 95 SPORTS...................HI ADVERTISEMENTS .........133 r  i ; Tiger Scratch Staff Gardis Cope BUSINESS MANAGER Dana Engram ASSISTANT EDITOR Lynn Curtis CLUB REPORTER Elva Creel JUNIOR HIGH EDITOR Hilda Harper Barbara Suggs CLUB REPORTERS Julia Deal EDITOR-IN-CHIEF Mary Enfinger CIRCULATION MANAGER Patsy Aukema, Sue Chewning I 0 COPY AND MAKEUP Amelia Newton, Susan Everett FEATURE EDITORS Paw Prints Staff Paula Adams ORGANIZATIONAL EDITOR PAW PRINTS IN PROGRESS Linda Fowler EDITOR-IN-CHIEF Barbara DuRant FEATURE EDITOR Chris Lewis ART EDITOR Mrs. Barbara Gilman SPONSOR II Editor’s Message From the first day to final exams 1965-66 was a memorable year at C.H.S. Eager to make new friendships and renew old ones we re- turned from the shortest summer ever to begin the school year. Now as the school year draws to a close, looking to the future, our memories of the past can not be pushed aside. In these few pages we have tried to re-live this wonderful and exciting year for you. With the sincere wish that each of you will use this book in the re- viewing of your experiences of 1965-66, we present to you the 1966 PAW PRINTS. Memory believes before knowing remembers. Believes longer than recollects, longer than knowing even wonders. —William Faulkner 12 In Memoriam RAYMOND E. SIMMONS (1907-1965) In one sense there is no death. The life of a soul on earth lasts be- yond his departure. —Angelo Patri. Mr. Raymond E. Simmons came to Chipley High School as custodian in 1953, and although death took him from us on June 18, 1965, in a sense he lives on, for not only did he take care of the physical .facili- ties of his school, but he also cared for the people of his school. That personal concern, deep loyalty, and Christian example, which he ex- pressed daily, are, in truth, making his life last far beyond his departure. BOBBY JOE BARNES (1950-1965) In Memoriam How strange he should sleep so profoundly. So young, so unworn by the strife! While beside him, brimful of Hope's nectar. Untouched stands the goblet of life. Tis idle to talk of the future And the rare might have been, midst our tears; God knew all about it, yet took him Away from the oncoming years. —Unknown ADMINISTRATION CHARLES L. ADAMS America is a wonderful place in which to live. It owes us nothing, yet it offers unlimited opportunity to those who are willing to prepare themselves to enter the doors when they are opened. The twelve years you have spent at Chipley High School have only partially opened the doors to a successful future. How wide that door will open will be determined by your willingness to seek further train- ing or education. Success is not something one can measure in terms of dollars and cents; rather, it is possessing that inner peace and satis- faction of the job well done. This success must be sought, it does not come without effort and preparation. How much will you give in order to obtain success? My wish for you is happiness and maximum effort toward this successful prepara- tion. Our Principal MR. CHARLES ADAMS B.S. Troy State College M.A. George Peabody College 17 JAMES BAILEY B.S.
