Beginning officially with a bonfire and sock-hop on Wednesday. September 29, festivities continued with the girls' basketball team taking on Malta, Thursday. The next day, which was beautiful, saw the most activity. First came a program with jokes, skits, the coronation, and music. Queen Kathi Barber and King Mike Sattleen were serenaded by The Third Degree as a closing number. The freshmen and the FHA captured top prizes for floats in the parade held later that afternoon. The football team won the Homecoming game against Conrad 48-24 to make it the best night in eight years (the last time the Beeters defeated the Cowboys). Homecoming ended on Saturday with a dance played by The Third Degree. A Beeter girls' game against Havre preceded it. BB GUESTS 3S YDS.5G0 F 29 Varsity Football. . . Thrilled the Hometown Fans The varsity football team had a great season this year - the best they have ever had in years! The boys played well and won all four home games including Homecoming, but unfortunately lost all of the games on the road. Tim Harshman was the only Beeter to make All-Conference . Chinook was the gathering spot for the Northern All-Star Wrestlers to meet their foreign opponents. These matches offered an exchange of skills and gifts of friendship. Lyle LaTray was the only CHS victory over the well-trained Japanese. School, the following day, was something special. CHS welcomed their foreign friends in assembly. Whether in volleyball, at hot lunch, or just sitting in class, the day was full of sharing and admiration. 33 Mock Election . . . Got Students Involved in Presidential Hoopla Two weeks of ambition were instilled in CHS during the 1976 election days. Mr. Hewitt, Mrs. Wiersum, and Miss Craven encouraged students to portray the various candidates and organize a mock election. Student support was shown through campaign posters and buttons. Prepared speeches were given in an assembly to allow the students to become familiar with their candidates. Mark Harshman (alias Jimmy Carter) captured the Presidency. CHS students showed independent views on state issues compared to the Montana general election statistics. 34 Girls’ Varsity Basketball. . . Bubbles and Casino Were Big Hits Carnival added to the holiday atmosphere of December. The incoming season stimulated new ideas for Carnival happenings. A sophomore candy shop, the Spanish Club's pinata festival and Speech and Drama's casino in the transformed weight room were all the latest attractions. Each year brings new amusement to the Variety Show and this year was no exception. The cheerleaders sponsored a breathless bubble-blowing contest. Charles Holman took all bubble honors. The Music Department repeated their pie contest with Allan Werk eating his way to victory. Debbie Luckett and Mark Hamilton took their place on the throne to carry on the reign of '79. With a song. Could it Be Magic,” George Van Campen added the final touches. 40 41 INDIVIDUAL RECORDS NAME W L D Perry Miller 0 8 0 Lawny Miller 8 11 0 Kevin Lybeck 19 9 2 Gary Bryson 11 12 0 Lyle LaTray 23 10 0 Chuck Werk 8 12 0 Steve Treftz 17 12 0 NAME W L D Doug Lux 8 6 0 John Miller 1 14 0 Don Whisonant 26 2 0 Barry Reid 2 15 0 Buzz Steinmetz 20 7 0 Scott Pike 1 9 0 BACK ROW: Coach Ray Reid, Chuck Werk, Steve Treftz, Scott Pike, Doug Lux, John Miller, Kevin Willman, Don Whisonani, Bill Laufer, Barry Reid, Coach Ken Stuker. The Diary of Anne Frank,” went off well. Adapted from an actual diary of a teen-age girl, this is the story of two Jewish families that went into hiding in the attic of a large warehouse during World War II to keep from being taken to a concentration camp. The drama tells of how they lived in constant fear and hunger, how they managed to enjoy a few moments in spite of their problems, and how they were finally arrested and imprisoned by the Gestapo. Kept Seniors Busy Right Up to the End Senior Week - that flurry of tying up loose ends and getting ready to depart the halls of CHS for the last time - was hurried (and harried) as usual in 1977. Some of the many events of the last week included Class Night, Delta Kappa Gamma Grandmother - Mother-Daughter Tea, Senior Picnic, and, of course, the big even itself - Commencement Exercises. The ceremonies featured speeches by Salutatorian Deanna Drugge, Valedictorian Debra Graber, Rev. Howard Hinman, and Frank Spangler. Music was once again provided by some of Gerald Lemieux’s outstanding vocal groups. The most cherisehd high-light of the week for each member of the class of 1977, however, was that moment when he she was handed a diploma from board member Dick Doughten, Jack Gist, or Sheri Miller. 74 times of our lives . . . staff 76 Staff. . .
