Then they dropped a couple to superior teams from Fort Benton and Cut Bank, but came back to thrill their homecoming fans with a de- cisive win over the Browning In- dians. Shelby proved too tough, but the Beeters refused to give in. The next weekend was the big heartbreaker - CHS had a win cinched in their contest with traditional rival, Malta, only to give it away in the closing min- utes. The season ended on a sour note with the Beeters losing to the mighty Conrad Cowboys. A street dance followed at Buttrey's parking lot. On Friday things began with the crowning of the royalty. Chosen king was Richard Stuker and chosen queen was Vicki Felton. Attendants were Patti Con- roy, Carol Leeds, Steve Harvey, and Bill Oehmcke. Kangaroo Court was next, followed by the parade with all float entries. During half-time of the game, in which the Beeters were victorious over the Browning Indians, the juniors were awarded first place for their float. Fol- lowing the game, Student Council sponsored the homecoming dance. 27 Playing junior varsity football for CHS in 1971 were: ROW ONE: Jerry Wisch, Matt Harshman, Dan Davies, Har- lan Morgan, Gary Ramberg, Mark Brainard, John Ross, Randy Fisher. Earning Money to Support Activities Fun Night . . . Posing with 1971 queen Patti Harshman were her at- tendants Sandra Felton, Michelle McDowell, and Janet Guertzgen, along with 1970 queen Sandi Len- hardt. 30 Mr. Murphy and other members of the faculty and administration served as genial targets on the new FFA Dunking Stand. STANDING: Anita Nemetz, Lonnie Bahr, Laurie Sheets, Sonya Johnson, Rod Olson, Grant Willman, Mr. Hewitt, Marshall McCart- ney. Peggy Munson. Patsy Kimball, Robert Herdegan, Marilyn Rusch. Junior Play . . . Spoofing the Generation Gap The Junior Play, ’’The Haircut, ” was about Mackey who was always getting into it with Mr. Pockles about his hair. Pockles got involved with a single woman teach- er. She wanted to marry him, but there was one complication - Pockles was already married! This outside activity did nothing to increase Pockles’ patience in dealing with Mackey. He finally got tired of telling Mackey to get his hair cut, so he did the job himself. Toy Drive . . . Spreading Christmas Joy On December 22, members of the Student Council accompanied Santa Claus, better known as Dennis Wisch, in his travels to Hays and Lodge Pole. A week previous to this, toys were collected to give the children eagerly awaiting him at the two stops. Everyone had a great time, and the Student Council hopes to continue this practice in the future. 33 Cheerleaders . . . Exhorting the Team to Win Leading a chant at a pep assembly are varsity cheerleaders Peggy Butler, Marilyn Rusch, Marcia Rusch, and Janet Guertzgen. 34 Wrestling cheerleaders, Lou Ann Bryson, Rae Ann Renne, and Mary Reene, lead the fans in cheering an exciting match. Sparking the junior varsity teams were Leanne Taylor, Beth Har- bolt, Ann McCiintock, and Linda Stephens. 35 In action featuring some of the wrestlers, one has: RIGHT: Senior star, Richard Stuker finds himself in a very common predicament, receiving congratulations from a cheerleader for placing third. ROW TWO: Richard Varner, Grant Willman, Tony Seamons, Bill Oehmcke, Richard L. Stuker. Having to forfeit one or more weight classes every match really hurt the CHS wrestlers in the '71-'72 sea- son. Characterizing School Stereotypes The senior class presented the play, LOCK, STOCK, AND LIPSTICK, The play took place in the guidance office of Pembroke High School. The guidance counselor, played by Jim Murdy, was somewhat set in his ways and was against any changes in his department. David Stroud did an excellent job in portraying the custodian, other- wise known as the idiot, who did counseling on the side. Carol Leeds also did a fine job in the role of Miss Prather, known as Miss Frankenstein by the students, the math teacher who refused to teach discipline prob- lems. One of her problems was Larry Donnely, played by Fred Simpson. He came under suspicion when the annual staff money disappeared. Leta Campbell, portraying the girls counselor, supported his innocence. Members of the cast of LOCK, STOCK, AND LIPSTICK were: Fred Simpson, Lance Elias, Carol Leeds, David Stroud, Leu Campbell, Jim Murdy, Peggy Williamson, Sonya Johnson, Vicki Felton, Lora Young, Debbie Nicholson. 46 Those competing in Girls' Track were: ROW ONE: Nanette Berger, Linda Stephens, Darilyn McCracken, Leslie Stucker, Jackie Briere, Penny Miller, Carolyn Hofeldt. ROW TWO: Jackie DePriest, Patsy Kimball, Carol Maetche, Marcia Rusch, Beth Harbolt, Sheri Conner, Joni Barber, and Coach Judy Miller. Penny Miller with her efforts in long jump and the 100 yard dash was the big name in girls track. Penny earned the right to represent CHS at state in these events. Other individuals who placed at district, but not in divi- sional, were Patsy Kimball in 220 and Marcia Rusch in hurdles. Also placing at district, and consequently entered at divisional was the relay team - Patsy Kim- ball, Penny Miller, Joni Barber, and Sheri Conner. These girls competed in both the 440 and 880 medley events. 47 Paced by senior star, Jeff Harshman, who set a new record in high hurdles at the Northern Divisional meet in Great Falls, the CHS thinclads had a fine season. The team was second in the district meet. Placing at district were: Jeff Harshman, high and low hurdles; Bob Herdegen, shotput; Marlin LaTray, mile and two mile; Dan Jamieson, 100, 220, and 440; Richard Stufeer, 100 and 220; Keith Conroy, high jump; Chuck Smith, high jump. In addition to these fine individual efforts, the 880 relay team - Richard Stuker, Jerry Johnson, Jeff Harsh- man, and Dan Jamieson - and the mile relay team - Richard Stuker, Bill MacLean, Jeff Harshman, and Dan Jamieson - Posted good season records. Representing CHS in the state meet were: Jeff Harshman, low hurdles and high hurdles; Dan Jamie- son, 100 and 220; Richard Stuker, 220; and the 880 relay team. Varsity Track . . . A Day in the Old South with the Orange Sunshine band. This phrase pretty much sums up the junior-senior prom of 1972. For the juniors, the event got rolling on April 17 when they got down to the business of converting the Armory to a gracious Southern plantation. The seniors got into the act on Friday when they joined the juniors for a pizza feed. Saturday, both classes dressed in formal best for the traditional prom. Everyone got a big sur- prise when the first bars of the grand march blasted through the archway - Orange Sunshine turned out to be a hard rock group! After recovering from the initial shock, prom goers, who had elected Tony Seamons king and Barbara Miller queen, relaxed and enjoyed themselves until the stroke of 12 when the sponsors closed things down. 51 National Honor Society . . .
