CLASS HISTORY The class of 1961 came into high school as freshmen in the autumn of 1957. David Boisvert was elected president. Rich Hoehn, vice-president, and Sharon Uhlich, secretary-treasurer. Mrs. Tom Burns, faculty sponsor, helped guide and encourage the frosh. Serving as representatives to the Student Council were Kay Conrad, Jim Kath-man, and Bill Dickson. The class selected Sharon Uhlich as Carnival Queen candidate. After three months' vacation, the classmates returned as ready and raring sophomores. Bill Kimball took on the duties of president with vice-president Claudia Dalquist. Jackie Cooper was elected as secretary-treasurer. In the Student Council this year were Julie Conner, Marjorie Monson, and Bill Thompson. Mr. Fiske and Mr. Walker served as class sponsors. Our candidate for Carnival Queen was Sandi Bollinger. As the mighty class of 1961 entered the halls of CHS as upperclassmen, action began to take place. Bill Dickson was selected as Junior Class president. Bill Thompson as vice-president, and Sandi Lux as secretary-treasurer also served on the executive staff. Junior Class Student Council representatives were Doug Lux, Dennis Paulson, and Dick Doughten. In the beauty department, Jackie Cooper was elected as Carnival Queen candidate. For the first time, juniors were able to attend High School Week at Bozeman, Montana. These juniors were David Boisvert, Jackie Cooper, Julie Conner, and Mary Kay Burtner. Julie Conner and Jackie Cooper were elected as delegates to Girls' State with Mary Gail Boe and Kitty Sharpies as alternates. Boys' State delegates were Bill Kimball, Quint Seamons, and David Boisvert. Alternates were Mike Tilleman, Bill Dickson and Jim Kathman. The Junior Class Play, Fair Exchange, under the direction of Mrs. Richard Wagner, was a smash hit. For the Junior Prom, the class chose Cinderella's Ball as its theme. Prom chairman. Bill Kimball, and banquet chairman, Mary Gail Boe, and assistants were able to put forth a very successful Junior Prom. This year the queen of the Prom was Julie Conner and the king of the Prom was Dick Doughten. The class sponsors were Miss Wilson and Mr. Grant. Bill Kimball, David Boisvert, and Mary Kay Burtner were elected to the National Honor Society. Bob Arndt became president of the Student Council. At last the Senior Year rolled around. The mighty Seniors of '61 chose Quint Seamons as their president. Rich Hoehn became vice-president. Secretary-treasurer was Elaine Bleha. Our representatives to the Student Council were Mike Tilleman, Bill Dickson, and Kitty Sharpies. Senior Class sponsors were Mr. Denny and Mr. Bowen. Carnival Queen candidate was Julie Conner. The comedy, Who Wouldn't Be Crazy? was the very successful Senior Class Play. The Senior Class had a very beautiful Senior Sno Ball. Sno Ball queen was Marjorie Monson, and Sno Ball King was Danny Lenhardt. Again representing the Senior Class, Jackie Cooper was chosen as Homecoming Queen and Bill Thompson as Homecoming King. Mike Tilleman was chosen from our school to be on the high school All American Football Team of 1960-61. Those seniors elected this year to the National Honor Society were: Jackie Cooper, Sharon Farley, Julie Conner, Mary Gail Boe, Marjorie Monson, and Sandi Bollinger. All in all, the Class of 1961 has been one of the greatest classes that Chinook High School has ever seen! 19 CLASS WILL Robert Arndt wills his awkward situations in Student Council to the next Student Council president. I doubt if he Will be able to worm his way out of them like Bob did. Frank Barber doesn't will Peachie; he's going to keep her. Terry Bauer leaves his pace to anyone who can set it as well as he did. Lois Beard wills her quiet ways to Norma France. Slow down, Norma! Elaine Bleha wills her 8:00 study hall to all girls that have a man. Go to it, boys! Alary Gail Boe gives her ability to pick boys with big cars to Peg Conrad. You try it for a while, Peg! David Boisvert and Jackie Cooper will their cozy times working on the annual to next year's co-editors. Sandra Bollinger leaves her great admiration for men with beards to anyone who wants to take a trip to Cuba with her. Raymond Brady wills his ability to graduate to next year's Seniors. Barbara Brekke gives her humbleness to Max Chapman. Do something with it. Max! Mary Kay Burtner leaves her good times at country dances to Bonnie Magda. Bonnie's got a good start on them already. Marcene Campbell leaves with a sigh of relief. Julie Conner wills her sweet personality to Neal Montgomery. Kay Conrad gives Judy Lux her ability to be true to one boy. Sorry, boys! Claude Corrigan leaves his slow, easy drawl to Joanie Leeds. We always wondered what she was saying, now we will know. Donald Denning leaves his ability to have a good time to anyone who dares to out do him. George Dickson gives his title as International Playboy to Charlie Clikeman. See you in Europe . . . Right, Charlie? Dick Doughten gives the Big Merc to anyone who will put as much time and money into it as he now does. Sharon Farley wills her conservative ways to Carol Harbolt. Oh! Peaceful days are finally here. Victor Finley gives his bomb to his brother Kenny; Joey's already got one. Lynr.e Harwood wills her ability to tell tall tales to Paul Bunyan. The Chinook High School Science Club is an organization which meets on the third Monday of every month. The first meeting was primarily to elect officers. The purpose of our organization is to keep the members interested in their preferred field of science. It familiarizes them with the basic tools of science which they use to construct their projects. The Future Teachers of America is an organization set up to inform and interest students in the teaching profession. The meetings are held every fourth Monday of the month at 8:15. SENIOR GREGG ARTISTS The organization of Senior Gregg Artists was composed of 13 senior girls this year. Their purpose was to make at least a mark of 95 in the five minute tests of 60-80-100 words a minute. A record of each one's progress was kept on a chart in the front of the Shorthand Room. On the third Thursday of each month the members had lunch together in the Home Ec Room. In December, the Senior Gregg Artists had a joint meeting with the Junior Gregg Artists. The Organization sponsored the queen booth and crowning ceremony at the Carnival. JUNIOR GREGG ARTISTS The Junior Gregg Artists consists of of 22 girls. Helen Rohrer is our President, Rita Chapman, Vice-President, and Lisa Finch, Secretary. Our sponsor is Miss Wilson. Our goal is to take dictation at 60 words a minute. We also have to pass the Brief Form test three times during the year. Once every month we have a meeting in the Home Ec. Room. At these meetings at a potluck luncheon is served. To be a member of the French Club a person must have taken French in school. This year the club sponsored three main things. The entire club went to Havre in February to see the French movie The Red and the Black. Early in March, Bill Dickson entertained the club with slides of his trip to Europe, which he took last summer. The slides were very interesting and were well received by the club. In the spring a banquet is held at the Meadowlard School to climax the year. On September 8, I960, the F.H.A. sponsored a picnic for the freshman girls. On September 25, eighteen new members were initiated into F.H.A. For the first time the F.H.A. girls sponsored the Harvest Ball. The dance was semi-formal and well attended. Our homecoming float won third place. In November the F.H.A. went on a hayride given by the F.F.A. boys. The girls also worked on dolls for the needy children at our November meeting. Other activities include Christmas caroling, shadow-box social, and a special speaker, Mr. Garland. Four delegates attended the F.H.A. State Convention held in Bozeman in the spring. THE MINT DR. The Future Farmers of America is a national organization of young farm boys preparing for a future in agriculture. The major purposes of the Future Farmers of America are to develop agricultural leadership, cooperation, citizenship, improved agriculture, and patriotism. One of the activities which we participated in was the State Convention held in Bozeman, Montana. Henry Hofeldt, Neil Montgomery, Doug Mitchell, Ray Brady, Byron Guertzgen, and Howard Michel attended this event. In July the FFA held a summer camp in Glacier National Park. The FFA had an exhibit at the State Fair in Great Falls, and the Blaine County Fair. David Jensen and John Hebbelman attended the National Convention held annually in the Municipal Auditorium at Kansas City, Missouri. The Chinook chapter took part in the District Convention which was held at Hinsdale, Montana.
