Senior Girls Kfvwd Aofory Our class of 81 boisterous students entered C.H.S. in the fall of 1951 and was classed as green freshmen , but we soon overcame this title. We were initiated by the sophomores in a week-long struggle which was brought to a close by a rip-snorting assembly. We got off to a bang-up start by electing Chuck Ingwalson, president: Kay Robertson, vice-president: and Marilee Chapman, secretary-treasurer. Our student council representatives were Judy Acher, Linda Lux, and Ivan Nelson. Mr. Heintz was our sponsor. We finished off the year with a very successful class picnic. We re-entered C.H.S. in the fall of 1952, this time as sophomores, striving to obtain higher abilities. To prove this, we elected Linda Lux, presidentg Kenny Stam, vice -president and Margie Williamson, secretary-treasurer. Our student council representatives were Vernon Kaufman, Rulee Matsuoka, and Marilee Chapman. We had a big initiation for the new freshmen, even though it lasted for only two weeks, under the new initiation ruling. Miss Koehmstedt acted as our sponsor. The following fall we entered the high as flighty juniors: upperclassmen at last! This year, to prove our worth, we elected E. L. Luckett, presidentg Ivan Nelson, vice- president: and Tana Claridge, secretary-treasurer. John Gesell, Lacene Galbraith, and Chuck Ingwalson served as student council representatives. We sponsored the annual Junior Prom, with Ivan Nelson as prom chairman, and E. L. Luckett and Linda Lux leading the Grand March. The theme of the prom was Harbor Lights , and the gym was decorated in a marine motif for the occasion. Going Places was our class play this year, and a very successful one it proved to be. To attend Girls' State, we selected Margie Williamson, with Rulee Matsuoka as alternate. Boys' State delegates were John Gesell, Ivan Nelson, and Chuck Ingwalson, with Nevada Bonar, David Kathman, and Kenny Kuhr as alternates. Mr. Denney was chosen to sponsor our class this year. Entering C.H.S. for the last time, we set out to make it a memorable one by electing Garth Seamons as president, Bob Matulka as vice-president, Jacquie Matchett as secretary, and Rulee Matsuoka as treasur er. This year's Student Council officers were Ivan Nelson, president: Chuck Ingwalson, vice-president: Tana Claridge, secretary: and Margie Williamson, treasurer. Acting as class representatives were Helen Couch, LaLawne Gratton, and E. L. Luckett. We chose Mr. Bowen to be our sponsor. Our senior class play was Special Delivery , a very clever comedy. The D.A.R. Award was presented to Rulee Matsuoka, and the Bausch and Lomb Award, to John Gesell, Jacquie Matchett was crowned Queen of the annual Carnival. Our valedictorian was Cornelia Feiertag, and the salutatorian, John Gesell, Thus, on the night of May 25, 1955, we finished four wonderful years of comradeship and happiness at Chinook High School, an experience we shall never forget. We, the Class of '55, being of sound mind and big hearts, do hereby bequeath our worldly possessions and talents to those who will put them to good use in climbing the four steps of high school education. Chosen to represent the Class of 1955 last year were Rulee Matsuoka, John Gesell, Cornelia Feiertag, and Arle West, and these four students comprised the functioning Honor Society during the school year 1954-1955. Under the sponsorship of Mr. Denney, they handled the novelty-sales booth at the Carnival and submitted their nomination to the Hall of Fame. The Honor Society banquet, which was held on May 4, was the culmination of a year's work, and featured the initiation and pledging of the new members who were selected in March. Chosen from the senior class were Charles lngwalson, Jacquelin Matchett, Ivan Nelson, .lane Speers, Nevada Bonar, Iretta Thompson and Kendall Kuhr. MIDDLE ROW: Certainly one of the 'cleverest comedies presented by a CHS class in a long time was George Batson's The Doctor I-Ias a Daughter . The daughter is a mislead teen-ager who has a fixation for solving other people's problems. Naturally, she gets herself into a peck of trouble, especially when she re-unites her old-maid aunt with a crotchety old man she knows nothing of. Picturing herself as a terrific playwright, she revamps her class play from a Pilgrim pageant to a sordid saga of C1eopatra's amours. In and out of trouble--from one hilarious incident to another--that's the doctor's daughter! The live-wire cast of juniors was joined, in the last week of rehearsal, by John Gesell, due to a broken leg suffered by Bill Leonard. Special Delivery , a superb comedy by Robert Ray, was a character-p1ayer's dream. Populated with such characters as it was, the play was a terrific success. There was Polly, the wise-cracking Steno who had a crush on the boss: Peggy, the man-chasing secretary from down the hall: Mrs. Jasper, the gay divorcee, and her husband John, the shady electricia.n g Monte, the flustered young lawyer: and Angie, the hilarious cleaning-woman. The plot revolves around a misplaced special-delivery letter, and the uproar it causes in Monte's law office. All in all, it proved to be a wonderful opportunity for ten seniors, who dramatically speaking, gave it the works. Much credit for the successes of the two class plays of this year goes very deservedly to the congenial director, Mrs. Praetz. They couldn't have done it without her! They learned a bunch of new yells, and sold Cheering Books both to raise money and to give every member a chance to learn the yells. Their two bake sales helped out considerably with the money problem, and for their hard-working cheerleaders, they purchased new uniforms--black skirts and white turtle-neck sweaters, on which their big orange cheering letter were displayed. This year, the band was definitely one of the most active of all CHS organizations. They started off the year by conducting a magazine-subscription campaign which netted them approximately S 300. The football games down at Hoon Field were pepped up by the presence of the band, and their precision marches at half-time were really something to see. They attended the game with Great Falls Central, and performed on the gridiron of Memorial Stadium with one of their snappy formation marches. Here, much credit goes to The Boss , Mr. Prestbo, for his enthusiasm and perseverance. The pep band up in the crow's nest enlivened the basketball games, and here the group also sold programs and pop. Their big moment came with the Northern Class B Tournament at Great Falls, which they attended. With the athletic season over, the band turned toward concert work--complementing their Thanks- 'I giving Concert with the annual Spring musicale. A pair of tympani was added to the arsenal early in January. They entertained the student body at the pep assemblies and at the Christmas program, and, with various instrumental solos and ensembles, were adjudicated at the April Z District Music Festival- at Havre. The Havre May Festival was also on the band's agenda. Yes, it was quite a year for the Chinook High School Band. Taking care of a basketball team can be quite a job--just ask them! The A-Squad was under Ivan's care, while Bill cleaned up aft- er the junior varsity. Thanks a heap, fellas-- you did a swell job. OFFICERS President-Marilyn Dickson Secretary-Nancv Clikeman Sponsor--Miss Nelson The Girls' Athletic Association, known more familiarly as the gaa-girls , did many new things this year. During the football season they sold pencils with the football schedule printed thereon, and they sponsored a hot dog stand under the goal-posts . Miss Nelson put the girls to work making black-and-orange crepe-paper shakers to pep up the Pep Club, and the gadgets went over in a big way. More pencils were sold during basketball season, this time with the year's home-game schedule dis- played. This year, hot dogs and candy were peddled at the basketball games due to the GAA. At their annual Christmas banquet, Margie Williamson and Noma Ness received letters for Girls' Athletics. This organization also sponsored a Play Day , with visitors from five near-by schools participating in a day-long athletic festival. Kenny Kuhr and Zella Lunden were crowned King and Queen of the Sadie Hawkins Dance, which culminated a day of sport for CHS girls. The GAA-sponsored affair had a big turnout this year, with. scores of eager lasses snaring their men for thex whing-ding which followed. All in all, it added up to a highly successful year for the gala-girls . ' Now listen. Eirls--and You too. Pc-PPer... Tut Ulf' 31145-Y0U'f9 fmt On UIC' ball.
