Dickey, Homer Bogue, Clerk of Board Earl Newman, Bla Van D The members of the Board ot Education are the people be- hind the scenes ot Chino high school. Their duty is to help the superintendent select the proper teachers, develop school policy, and budget the school funds. The Board ot Education is composed ot tive men selected by the community. The only pay they receive tor their time and ettort is the satisfaction ot seeing better Chino schools. During the year l95l-52, the Board 'was very busy start- ing construction on ten new classrooms on the new high school site, and constructing additional classroom facilities at the El Rancho school. Another accomplishment was the landscaping of the grounds around the tootball field and shower rooms. The flewman School plans have been approved and work has Qegun. The purpose ot this group is not only to assume part oi the burden ot the Council, but to go one step iarther in student government. During the past two years, the Senate has met with the merit board to aid students with merit problems and Complaints. lt also has Con- ducted various Cleanup Campaigns on the Campus as well as helping to sponsor some alter-school recreation. The Senate is Composed oi tourteen members. Five seniors in the group are Peggy Nielsen, Pat Derho, Beverly Brill, Tim Sar- tain and Tim Norman. Charles George, Delores Allen, Kenneth Berg and Pat Farr are the tour juniors. Three sophomores in the Senate are Darlene Brooks, Carol Bice and loe Aloalag the two freshman Senators are Lois Marshall and Sam Coblentz. Good pro- gress was made this year by all of the staff members under their instructor, Mrs. El- dora Belmour. The other officers of the paper were Bill Borden and Claudia Nice, business mana- gers, Anais Follmer, consultant, and Linda Berger and Peggy Nielsen, reporters. This year's Chino chapter of the California Scholarship Fed- eration has had an active year under their new leader, Mrs. Mamie Rollins. Membership in this honor group consists of students who have earned ten points by their subject grades and services rendered in grades nine through twelve. The highest goal is life membership, attained this year by Dale Morter. At the end of the first semester in l95l-52, Dale had seven semesters of CSF membership, and the required number is six. The groups honor trip this year was to San Diego where they visited the zoo April 21. Cn May 3 the CSF attended the Southern Regional Conference at Redlands. Social affairs in- cluded a Christmas party at the home of their adviser. The members of the Girls' League, which includes all girls irom grades nine through twelve, have gone all out in their activities, and the l95l-l952 cabinet has tried to make the Girls' League of this year the best ever. The girls on the cabinet have conducted lost-and-found drives, with the unclaimed articles going to the Neighborhood House. Each representative was responsible for one Girls' League meet- ing and food sale. This year two ot the cabinet members, Elizabeth Kramer and Suzanne Mutuberria, attended the Girls' League conference held in San Pedro. The League also co-sponsored a fashion re- view with the homemaking department in April- Donna Adair presided during the l95l-52 year, assisted by Shirley Shaner, Harriet Hargrove, Elizabeth. This test in given in the spring ot each year to the Shorthand l people. To be eligible they must pass a fifty Word per minute test for five minutes and the penmanship test. ln order to hold one's membership in the second year, one must attain and be consistent in an eighty Word per minute test tor five minutes. The final records show that the Mighty Midgets had a season record of eight wins and two losses which is a very successful showing by a championship team. Their fine ability and team spirit was the main factor in their victory. Basketball is the first sport engaged in by the girls at C.H.S. when they return to school in the fall- This year more girls were able to participate in the annual playdays, since A and B teams from each class were picked and entered in the playday. On November lO, junior and senior A and B teams entered the playday at Bonita, with both senior teams returning victorious, the juniors A's Winning, and the B's losing a close game. The sophomores and freshmen Went to the playday November l7. The sophs split, the A's losing, the B's Winning, the frosh were Winners in both and B divisions. Speedball season proved to be a busy one, with the girls out for the sport participating in a playday and a clinic. Ruby Gon- zales was the sport manager and Miss llse Schetfer, the coach. Chino High girls assisted their own coach and Mrs. Lois Tate, Corona High physical education teacher in the Speedball Clinic held on the Chino High School Memorial Field in lanuary. The clinic was under the auspices of the National Section on Wo- men's Athletics. At the playday held at Puente Union High School on Feb- ruary 2, Chino girls were undisputed champions with six wins. The Senior A's defeated Puente, the Iunior A's won over Bonita, Senior-lunior team defeated Bonita, Sophomore Ks won over Corona, Frosh A's defeated Puente, and the Sophomore-Frosh team defeated Bonita. Hockey playday held at Puente found the Chino G-AA. coming out first and winner of the playday- Each school played two twenty minute halves and each half was played against a different school. The Chino seniors turned out with two wins and no losses, juniors, one win and and one tie, sophomores lost one and tied one, and the freshmen tied one and won one. Tennis and badminton are two of the sports that are quite popular in the girls sports classes and are played toward the end ot the school year. The tennis and badminton teams are chosen by the ladder process. Any girl on the team is eligible to challenge a person that is not more than three steps ahead ot her. ln this manner the girls are always rotating and heading toward the top posi- tion. Tennis and badminton challenges are played off after school, during seventh and eighth periods. Ruth lones and Pat Beckley are the tennis and badminton managers, respectively. Perez JUNIOR HIGH BASKETBALL This year's junior high basketball team, coached by Shirley Moore, was not in a league and was without any one team cap- tain. The boys played fourteen games and participated in two tournaments. Of the fourteen games, the junior high team lost only two and they won both the Norwalk Kiwanis and the North- east District Y.M.O.A. tournaments- limmy Litel captained the team in the Norwalk tournament and Dick 'Williams led his team mates in the Northeast tournament. Paula Hurst served as editor of the periodical, and assisted Marilyn Gunn and Ruth Melin, who worked hard as managers- The staff included fourteen reporters and two typists. This year the staff has had a new adviser in the person of Mrs. Kathryn Callahan, eighth grade English instructor.
