Faculty members were persistently fouled as they pulled such antics as hoisting Miss Lam- bert up to the basket, while Thespian ad- visor, Mrs. Synder, was heard to yell KNO. 2, Faith, No. 2, Regina, No. 2, Some- onelw fthe old ball under the penny rou- tinej. 205 N 4 , an, di H.. .'- 5, . we 51 Q ibm SSRN Lg wx o ' ., ' Q - A fx S X! i M, , A X-i ,i '- bXi I 'QF M' 2.-9' 3X 4guns Q x ,I ' Q 1 V Nt X , ,4X.f5 m V al x 1 V Qi K i l f,: K xi .2 -L A2 41:-:ERS F- K xt Q 3. This season is a credit to a hard working group ol' players who have worked together to help one another improve needed skills and work together as a team. Two of the four losses came at the hands ol' a good Window liock Team, but even in losing the freshmen showed that they can stay on the floor with any team. We havenit got any outstanding height, so we rely on hustle to beat the other teams. Over the season, the freshmen used the I-3-I offense, and on defense used a man-tio-man and 2-l-2 zone. Throughout the year they showed improvement in adjusting to the new ol'l'ense and showed good improve- ment in using a 1-2-2 zone press on their opponents. 108 CHS X tr Chinle Basketball Schedule IOTJS-T4 42 Tohatchi 71 Ft. Mr. Guy Gorman, Sr., Chairman of the Board of Regents at Navajo Community College, talked the problem over with other members of the Board and with members of the Tribal Council as well. ALI. agreed that some thing must bc done to attract greater numbers of Navajo Students into the professions. At the same time, students are ahle to continue the art of silver design which is unique to the Navajo people. Participants in the program learn silver working and marketing procedures, and the methods of keeping records associated with the large-scale production of silver items. The Silversmithing Program has been funded through the Arizona Department of Vocational Education for a three- year period. It provides for the hiring of a local silversinith, Mr. Henry Silversmith, who aides the teacher by presenting traditional skills and methods. Students in the silversmithing program first learn the basic metal-working techniques using copper and brass. Students then begin to work with silver which they cut, solder, sand and polish to produce jewelry items. Silverworking at Chinle has become not only a form of art, but also a source of income to many Silversmithing students. The Silversmithing students held a Christmas Silver Sale and continued throughout the year to pre- sent and sell their work at various monthly sales. Many work opportunities are open to the individ- ual skilled in silversmithing.
