Holliway, Coach Fred Birchett Si The Varsity Boys Basketball team con- cluded a successful season by winning the Eastern Shore District and Tournament Championships for the second year in a row. The Ponies finished with a 7-2 regular season district record and 14-5 overall. Terry Anderson led the Ponies in scoring and in rebounding. Linwood Christopher and Eric Townsend were key contributors to the team offense and aggressive man to man de- fense. Terry and Eric earned All-District hon- ors, and Terry was also selected for first team honors in All-Region A balloting. They were upset at the Regional Tournament by Essex High by a score of 43- 40, leaving them with an overall season re- cord of 13-1. Dedication, experience, unselfishness, and an aggressive defense were the key fac- tors in bringing about this successful sea- son. Top scorers were Kammie Olsen and Martha Cropper, with Kim Lankford giv- ie countless assists as point guard. The team worked very hard on fundamentals, forcing other teams to make mistakes by playing very aggressively. The team was led by many outstanding players, such as Me- lissa Jester, batting .588 with 39 stolen bases, 10 extra base hits and driving in 34 runs. Denise Bowden completed an 8-2 pitch- ing record, with a .489 batting average. Kim Doyle, in her first year behind the plate, allowed only one passed ball the en- tire season, while putting out 8 players at the plate. The group of 15 first time volleyball players were organized by Coach Suzanne Rice into a very skillful team who demonstrated true team spirit throughout the season. While the team did not win their games in the State Tournament, it still had been quite aan impressive year. Nine senior band members partici- pated in the 1986 All-Shore Band, and nine middle school members participated in the Junior All-Shore Band. The Marching Pride continued to take trophies wherever they appeared, ending their season on May 10th by taking first place at Ocean City’s White Marlin Parade. During the summer of 1985, the earlier decision to incor- porate the sixth grade with the existing junior high grades was put into effect by the addition of a wing made of 7 class rooms and an office and a storage room. This has meant that a middle school section has been created, al- though in many areas, i t is still a part of the high school-- middle school students share many high school teachers, use the same cafeteria, library, art room, industrial arts room, band room, many high school classrooms, and the high school guidance counselor’s service. Dr. P. V.is the administrative head of the Annex and is responsible for the teachers and students of the middle school grades. 70 Dr. Chiesa At 4PM. ees Seige ES.
