They would have scored many more points if they had not been overpowered by larger and more experienced teams. Beaver and Wilhelm were high scorers for the year. Jordon also had a good scoring season. Captain Eagle, Honbarger, and Smith did an excellent job of guarding all through the season. Mary Louise Bernhardt was the team manager. With only a few girls leaving this year China Grove is expected to have a more successful season next year. BOY’S BASKETBALL The China Grove Red Devils had a good season in basketball. At the first of the season the Red Devils did not look so good, but after a few practice games they came out with good spirit. The Red Devils won quite a few of the conference games, and would have won more of them if they had not been overpowered by more experienced teams and larger boys. McDonald, and Aber¬ nathy were the two most outstanding players on the team, with DeMarcus, Wessinger, and Melchor doing everything in their power to bring up the scores. The Red Devils are looking forward to a more successful season next year. Only one or two of the players will be from the team By graduation. The Red Devils played every game with good sportsmanship. LDOTBALL The football team started the season with three bad defeats, but with the experience gained they improved rapidly. The starting line-up was made up of: Fletcher and Grant, end; Luther and Corriher, tackles; Eagle and Wessinger, guards; McCombs, center; Rary, quarterback; Gillespie and Bame, halfbacks; and Grimes, fullback. J. Melchor, J. Herrin, B. Davis, B. Bostian, and Beaver were sub-backs, while line replacements were J. T. Barnhardt, A. Melchor, G. T. Bradshaw, Lowder, Correll, Rector Hatoway. Buell Lowder was the team manager. ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ THE PARROT ♦ 1942 ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 33 THE ROWAN COUNTY BUILDING AND LOAN ASSOCIATION CHINA GROVE, N. C. This Building and Loan Association’s business is mutual. Main St. SALISBURY, NORTH CAROLINA Talden, Jr.: Papa, what makes the world go round? Mr. Earnhardt: Son, didn ' t I tell you to stay out of that basement. I think that I shall never see A girl refuse a meal that’s free A girl with hungry eyes not fixed Upon the drink that’s being mixed; A girl who doesn’t like to wear A lot of junk to match her hair; Girls are loved by guys like me — For who on earth will kiss a tree? Men are peculiar, fust as women have long sus¬ pected. For instance, a man who hadn’t kissed his wife in five years recently shot a man who did. If the right fellow loves her, she’s happy; If the wrong fellow loves her, she’s glad: If nobody loves her, she’s desperate; If anybody says so, she’s mad. TYPICAL CO-ED My saddle shoes are dirty, There’s no powder on my nose, My permanent’s gone with summer And my ruffled undie shows. Aly skirt’s a bunchy pleated plaid. My sweateds long and baggy; I’m hollow-eyed from loss of sleep — Who said that I look haggy? I pop my chewing gum in class; I have a cowboy walk; I turn handsprings on the campus. Oh! Boy! Do people talk? There’s just one blot upon this life Of comfort, rest and ease — Why don’t I dale like other girls?
