It was to become one of the most successful and unique classes Chilton High School would have for years. The class of '88 would be known for its participation in school organizations and sports. It would also be known as a class that would work together not as a class, but as a family. In our freshman year we had to learn to work together very quickly to finish the Homecoming float and posters. We were organized and lead by our class officers: President Sue Liebau, Vice President Kari Knoespel, Secretary Kari Muenster, Treasurer Amy Hephner; and Representatives Michelle Beil, Bob Broeckel, Sara Graney, and Keith Schmitz. Our class advisors Mrs. Huffman and Mrs. Westphal also helped us. We showed school spirit with the number of participants in the cheerleading and Pom Pon squads. Cheerleaders were Ann Broker, Julie Dietz, Tina Enneper, Linda Meier, and Carol Stenson. The Pom Pon members were Julie Depies, Denise Dietz, and Kari Muenster. Our sophomore year started with a surprise win of Homecoming's Spirit Week. We were lead to our win by our new advisors Ms. Ogle and Mrs. Schaffer; and our class officers: President Julie Depies, Vice President Tony Kobriger, Secretary Kari Muenster, Treasurer Amy Hephner, and Representatives Denise Dietz, Troy Neuber, Kevin Schmitz, and Terry Woelfel. Cheerleaders and Pom Pon girls helped us win Spirit Week too. Cheerleaders were Sherri Breckheimer, Tammy Boehnlein, Tina Enneper, Tracy Heinrich, Tina Lisowe, and Renee Scherer. Pom Pon members were Ann Broker, Julie Depies, Denise Dietz, Nancy Engler, Amy Hephner, Sara Keuler, Kari Muenster, Tina Nennig, and Lynn Schemmer. Our sophomore year also brought on the added responsibility of sponsoring Sweetheart Hop. Our King and Queen Terry Woelfel and Kari Knoespel reigned under the theme For Just A Moment . Other court members were: Julie Depies and Brad Ludwig, Nancy Engler and Troy Neuber, Amy Hephner and Gary Mertz, Sara Keuler and Keith Schmitz, and Kari Muenster and Mark Eisner. We said good-bye to Denise Dietz who spent part of her sophomore and junior years in New Zealand, and Julie Keuler who stayed in Ecquador her sophomore summer. Our junior year we won Spirit Week again, but under new class officers. Our President was Gary Mertz, Vice President Terry Woelfel, Secretary Kari Muenster, Treasurer Kevin Schmitz; and Representatives Sara Graney, Amy Hephner, Kari Knoespel, and Lynn Schemmer. Cheerleaders and Pom Pon girls led our class in school spirit. Cheerleaders were Sue Bartel, Michelle Beil, Sherri Breckheimer, Tina Enneper, and Renee Scherer. The Pom Pon members were co-captains Julie Depies and Kari Muenster, and squad Ann Broker, Denise Dietz, Nancy Engler, Amy Hephner, Sara Keuler, Tina Nennig, Lynn Schemmer, and Becky Vanne. Our Junior Prom showcased the crowning of King and Queen Brian Bancroft and Tammy Boehlein. Other court members were Kathy Anhalt and Tony Kobriger, Michelle Beil and Mike Zorn, Nicole DeMaster and Rick Krause, Sue Liebau and Bob Hoffmann, Tina Nennig and Paul Nickel. During the summer, four juniors went to Badger State: Tom Bailey, Bob Hoffmann, Kris Bittner, and Tammy Cullen; and three juniors went to Business World: Paul Nickel, Jim Schneider, and Allison Seckel. We also said good-bye to Renee Scherer who spent the summer in Iceland. In September of 1987 the class of '88 started its last year at Chilton High School. We started the year with three new friends: Renny Bolivar from Venezuela, Orawan Tanprawet from Thailand, and Dieter Van Besien from Belgium. Also our classmate Kris Bittner spent her last year in Belgium. Homecoming was very special for the senior class this year. First, we won Spirit Week for the third consecutive time. Second, we succeeded in having a parade even though it was raining. Finally, we crowned Duane See and Becky Vanne King and Queen at our Homecoming Dance with the theme song In My Dreams playing. Other court members included Lori Biese and Doug Depies, Sherri Breckheimer and Dan Hackbarth, Tina Enneper and Gregg Heller, Terri Hacka and Tim Steffes, Tracy Heinrich and Stewart Anhalt, and Tammy Hoerth and Larry Ecker. We were led to a successful Homecoming by advisors Miss Nelson and Mrs. Schaffer, and also class officers: President Gary Mertz, Vice President Terry Woelfel, Secretary Kari Muenster, Treasurer Amy Hephner; and Representatives Bob Broeckel, Julie Keuler, Kari Knoespel, and Russ Seider. Cheerleaders were Michelle Bell, Sherri Breckheimer, Julie Dietz, Tina Enneper, Kari Knoespel, and Renee Scherer. Pom Pon members were co-captains Julie Depies and Kari Muenster; and squad Ann Broker, Denise Dietz, Nancy Engler, Sara Keuler, Tina Nennig, Lynn Schemmer, and Becky Vanne. With graduation around the corner, we, as seniors, looked back on our high school years. Most memories were happy, but some were sad. We took those sad memories though, and used them to become better firends. On June 5, 1988, the 105 graduating class received their diplomas and moved on to the next step in their lives. The class of '88 leaves the student body with one thought, get involved with sports, organizations, and activities. You don't have to do everything, just what you're comfortable with because the experiences you gain now will carry you through a lifetime. The class of 88 will always be thankful for the experiences it has gained at Chilton High. 4 s Kathy Anhalt Stewart Anhalt Thomas Bailey QAJ H ryyOAZ' William Bangart James Barany Sue Bartel Michelle Beil Steve Boehnlein h(3c£ v cu - Tammie Boehnlein Renny Bolivar Sandy Boll Sherri Breckheimer PouJl Robert Broeckel n.r.' Anon Our class came into the year hoping the year would go quickly, so we could become seniors quicker. We still had memories of our successful Sweetheart Hop where Michelle Bartel and Dean Schmitz were crowned Queen and King. Now, we had to work together to win Homecoming Week. At the pep assembly the boys and girls both won the tug-o-war, and our class won window display. We also held the Prom which turned out to be a huge success. We close the year anxious for next year to come when we'll be seniors. Let's work together to make it the best year yet. Don Hemauer. Cindy Pingel. Library Club members work as library aides during their study halls. They earn credit as reimbursement for their help. The aides function in many capacities. These areas include: helping check materials in and out; filing magazines and vertical file materials; preparing new magazines and newspapers for display; processing books, pamphlets, and magazines; displaying posters and decorations; preparing overdue notices; setting up bulletin boards; retrieving periodicals; helping library patrons; and miscellaneous other duties. The Library Club had only a few members this year. The library is always looking for more. This can be a very worthwhile experience for anyone who has the time and interest. To the CHS administration, faculty and students; and the Chilton community: Being the editor of a yearbook is a hard job, which becomes even harder when noone on the staff has more than two years experience, including yourself. Yet, the school and community's support eased my job as editor this year, and I would like to thank you. I, first, would like to thank the community which supported us by buying ads from our sfaff members, and also by letting us wash some of your cars at our car wash. This money was used to pay for the publication of the book, and photography supplies. I would also like to thank the CHS administration and faculty who allowed us to take late pictures of them, and to hand out surveys in their classes. Both of these plus all of the little things they did to support us were greatly appreciated. Also all of the students need to be thanked. I appreciate all of the times you filled out surveys, and all of the times you didn't lose your cool when one of my staff members either stuck a camera in your face, or asked a stupid question about an organization or sport you belonged in. I thank you, too, for supporting the staff by buying this book. Finally, I would like to thank my staff who stuck around through good and bad times to finish this book. Your dedication to make this book the best yearbook yet no matter what it cost you is appreciated, and I commend you for it. In conclusion I thank you again, and hope you enjoy this year's book. AFS is an organization open to all students in grades 7-12 who would like to learn about different cultures or make new friends. The president this year was Denise Dietz, and Mr. Schuknecht was the advisor. The club earns money to help CHS students who go abroad. Two ways they do this are by the annual pizza sale, and the concession stand at football games. Last summer Renee Scherer, Megan Schuknecht, and Mr. Schuknecht all went abroad. This year Paul Hertel and Kris Bittner are abroad for a full year. Three AFS students are with us this year. Renny Bolivar from Venezuela is staying with Chris Muellenbach, Wan Tanprawet from Thailand is staying with Julie Keuler, and Dieter Van Besien from Belgium is staying Mike and Sara Keuler. She spent most of her time at the summer home her family had. So she got to know her family well. Since she had a lot of time on her hands Megan got to take many pictures of the country and the area she was in. Megan will never forget the experience she had in Finland. Megan sitting on the porch of their summer home with her host brother and sisters. Renee spent her summer in Iceland. She had a great time and met many different people. Renee stayed in the capi-tol city of Reykjavik so there were many things to do. “My host parents took me to many different places so I could see as much of the country as I could while I was there. Renee had an excellent summer and will never forget it. 87 Renee and her host sister standing in front of Gulfalls. FROM RENNY BOLIVAR To my American friends: In the short time that I have been here. I've experienced one of the best times of my life. I will remember it forever. It's been an opportunity that everyone should be exposed to. I've learned a new language and lived in a totally new culture, that has taught me secrets about life the American way. It is incredible how much these experiences have enhanced my life. One of the most memorable experiences was learning how to down hill ski, and seeing snow for the first time. It was strange to see how everything goes into a hiatus from fall to spring. (In Venezuela everything remains green all through the year). Here you really appreciate the changing of the seasons much more. For all of this, I would like to thank Chilton High School, all of the professors that I got to know, and their considerations offered to me regarding my understanding of their explanations in this new language. I am also very thankful for those people who welcomed me with open arms: The Halbach family for the four months we shared together, to the AFS members who helped me out whenever I needed any help, and last but not least to my new family. The Muellenbachs (Steve, Jan, Chris, Eric, and Susan). Thank you all again, I will always remember you and your beautiful country. Love, Renny Renny studies in one of his many classes. When the year started he could only speak some English, now Renny can understand if spoken to slowly. Renny eats in the cafeteria with his friends. FROM ORAWAN TANPRAWET Wan waits for her English class to begin. Dear friends: Since I had left my beautiful country THAILAND, which is in South-East Asia, (the land of smile), I start to learn in a new experience. After I left my society and came to live in a different community; I think that it is interesting to learn about language, custom, way of life, and exchange or communicate with people. This is the reason that I applied for the AFS program. I hoped that I would learn a new experience in America, and develop it to use in my future. Then I came here as a representative of Thai people to exchange our custom. I left my family, cousin, school, and friends. Then I was looking forward to seeing the KEULER FAMILY. At the time I met them I was very excited, anxious, and a little nervous. Before I came here I contacted them and knew a bit about them. I felt that it was a very warm welcome. I spent a whole year with AFS and had a GREAT YEAR with them. The first couple of months I got along with them so fast. We had a lot of fun with each other. Our relationship came more and more and I love them a lot. My host sister, Julie, is very friendly, and a nice girl. She always explained and helped me like a real sister. I also learned about Ecuador where she went as an AFS student. My American parents are very kind and nice to me. They take very good care of me. I learned a lot from them and had a very good relationship with them. School in the U.S. system is different from my country. When I came to Chilton High for the first time, I thought I liked the atmosphere of having friendly teachers. So far everything was going better with combined classes, language, quizzes or tests, and friends. I also like this education system although it is different. I like the class, teachers, and friends here very much. I also like Chilton with people who are very friendly. I got many new experiences such as snow, cold weather, way of life, and slangs here. For the one year that I stayed here I seemed to improve, exchange, and learn a lot from my experiences. This is an AFS exchange program. Well, I would like to say thank you very much to AFS for giving this chance to me. AFS Chilton Chapter, AFS Adults Chilton, Chilton High School, friends, and of course the KEULER FAMILY. Love, Ora wan Tanprawet (Wan) Wan first saw snow this year. Wan eats lunch in the cafeteria with her friends 8S FROM DIETER VAN BESIEN Dear Friends: Saying goodbye is always hard to do. In August of 1987 I had to say goodbye to all my friends and all my relatives in my hometown Haacht. I had decided to leave them all behind, and discover new horizons. And indeed, it was very hard. Although I really wanted to do this, I felt quite uncertain making this step in the world on my own. But despite everything, I had one certainty, one thing I could count on: After only one year, I would see them again. I knew they would be waiting for me. This time it's different. I will leave Chilton and I don't know when I'll be back. I have to leave close friends and some of them, I will never see again That is pretty hard to accept. I won't leave this place the same way I arrived, though. When I leave Chilton, there will be a big part of my heart that stays here. That part of my heart will always stay with you and I will miss it very much. So, I will have to come and visit that part of my heart for sure. I will do that as many times as possible. That's why I want to ask you: even though I don't know when I'm going to be back, I hope that there still will be people waiting for me. Before I end this note I want to thank this fantastic family I stayed with and all my great buddies from Chilton High. Without you, it wouldn't have been the same. Thanks a lot. I'll miss you. Love, Dieter Dieter has fun toilet papering the school. 90 Dieter and Chad Muenster give the peace sign after planning which trees to toilet paper first. FIRST EXCHANGE TEACHER IN CHILTON Mr. Man-Liang Wang. AFS teacher from China stayed in Chilton for the year. Mr. Man-Liang Wang spent a great year in Chilton, with the Ken Weber family. Mr. Wang taught English at a college in China and came to the United States to improve his English. Mr. Wang taught a group of Elementary students in Chilton which he enjoyed greatly.
