A new security system was added to insure a safe school. Another addition to our school was the welcome mat donated by the class of 85. ORGANIZATIONS 8 ... SO PICK UP THAT BALL, CHILTON HIGH, . . . 3 This year the cheerleaders were under a new advisor, Ms. Bonnie Nelson. They participated in many fundraising activities such as bakesales, a computer game, and selling CHS sweatshirts. This helped cover some of the many costs. It was a very successful year since the girls worked together well and practiced hard for the Chilton Tiger teams. 1. Amy Kartheiser practicing. 2. Debbie Propson practicing. 3. Mr. Sarasin did a fine job of starting the team up again this year. There seems to be much interest at the junior high level. We hope that next year there will be a greater number interested (both boys and girls), so that we can have a winning season. One of these is that to be a National Honor Society member, you must spend at least 15 hours per school year tutoring other students. This program has been very successful for both the tutors and the students. Again this year the NHS put on the Awards Night to induct new members into the society. 1. YEARBOOK STAFF The 1985 yearbook staff had only a few dedicated workers this year, most of them inexperienced. The yearbook offers opportunities in writing, layout, typing, and photography. The writers write paragraphs and captions for the pictures. Layout people design the pages. Photographers take group and action pictures, and may even have a chance to develop and print. Many people are needed in all areas. 24 TEEN INSTITUTE 1. Mi. Field, KTI advisor. 2. Sarah Pingel and Karrijo McAuly listen carefully. 3. KTI members in full swing. 4. Sherie Ludwig. 5. Mr. Sager was the head coach and Mr. Ruh was the assistant coach. Mr. Ruh describes the team as competitive, but they needed to be more aggressive. We have hurt ourselves on mental errors, and it seems to be difficult to get over that. stated Coach Ruh. The JV football team became the first Chilton football team since 1970 to go undefeated. The Tigers' season was characterized by hard work and great team togetherness. It seemed that all the victories were hard-fought, but perhaps the two sweetest triumphs were the 15-8 overtime victory over Plymouth and the last minute 12-8 nailbiter at Two Rivers. The 1985 Chilton Freshman Team won only one game, a 16-2 contest with Kewaskum, but the young Tigers outgained their final four opponents with four straight games of 200 or more yards offensively- Kevin Bornemann was the top rusher with 453 yards in 88 carries while Joey Hawig netted 203 yards in 58 carries and Joel Karls ran for 167 yards in 22 carries. 29 Row 1: Left to Right- Tim Roberts, Dan Stadtmueller, Tony Kobriger, Robert Horst, Paul Nickel, Troy Neuber, and Mike Zorn. GIRLS SWIM TEAM INCREASES IN NUMBER -ic ■ •' Coach Julie Rach was pleased with the turnout this year. Having a few more girls this year gave the team depth. That takes a lot of pressure off the returning letterwinners. Coach Rach also added, though, that the number of girls on the team this year was one of their weak points. She explains why. Even though we had more girls than last year, it's still hard to go against another team of 25-30 girls and expect to win. Strong points of the team were the eight returning letterwinners. These girls had experience and knew what to do to improve. We had some very talented girls with a lot of energy and drive to improve, said Coach Rach. 1. Kris Bloomer Kim Youngsteadt 2. We swam against many big schools and did very well at invitationals despite our size. Mr. Youngsteadt did a very fine job of coaching our young team and we thank him for all of the work that he did. Team: Coach: Mr. Youngsteadt Senior: Mike Roberts Juniors: Todd Mullins, Dan Schuknecht, Steve Schuknecht, Kevin Lozada Sophomores: Russ Scider, Chris Klaeser, Jim Thurwachter. Jim Baranv, Chris Mullenbach Freshmen: Brian Horst, Chris Streng. The 1985 girls volleyball team finished the season with an 0 and 14 record. This record is misleading because the girls played many com petitive matches during the season. Playing against Stockbridge, Kiel, Falls, and Plymouth, the Tigers were in the matches until the final point was scored. Leading players were Lori Rieder, who was named second team all conference, and Robin VanGrins ven, who received honorable men tion all conference honors. Accord ing to Coach Hartman, We are going to miss the seniors (Jodi Kopf, Lynn Propson, Beth Keuler, Wendy Steinfest, and Robin VanGrinsven) 2. Gail Nelson at the net. We have 9 re turning juniors next year (who all lettered), plus we have a fine group of sophomores coming up from the junior varsity team. This will be a winning combination. 3. Top Row: Steffi Whittaker, Brenda Woelfel, and Debbie Wagner. The JV team did work hard this year, and the close scores showed it. The team worked hard on spiking and serving, and other various drills to improve their volleyball skills. Ms. Komassa coached the JV team for two years in a row. Each member has to want to improve herself and give everything to do their best. Ms. Komassa feels that the team did do that, 100%. 33 1) Returning letter winners: Scott Pethan, Kurt Knoespel, Mike Roberts, Kevin Scherer. (Photo by Vercauteren) 2.) The boys team had a fairly successful season. They were noted for their close, suspenseful games. The team co-operation was noted as the team worked well together. This is a desirable trait that will hopefully stay throughout the season. 1. Row 1: Phil Stenz, Tom Bailey, Tim Steffes, Dave Granger, Rob Garfield, Brad Ludwig, and Troy Neuber. The reason for the junior high team is that there are only eight girls on the high school team. These eight girls are Tricia Bosshardt, Sherie Ludwig, Tammy Hoerth, Kim Youngsteadt, Amy Hephner, Kate Kobriger, Heather Thornber, and Monique Phillip. The girls on the junior high team are Mary Butler, Aimee Horst, Jenny Lozada, Carrie Brown, Dawn Depies, Paula Mullard, Sue Butler, Lisa Pethan, Kim Owens, Anne Meyers, Lisa Hoerth, Megan Nelson, Denise Baltz, Deann Dietz, and Lynn Karls. The high school varsity team is lacking in depth and experience in gymnastics background. Whereas, the junior high team is not. The background the junior high team has is due to Ron Hansen's feeder programs. Thanks to Ron Hansen's programs, the high school varsity team is going to be very strong in the years to come. The golf team of 1985 made Mr. Drone's last year of coaching very worthwhile. Successful golfers like Wayne Brandt, Perry Everix, Bill Suttner and many others contributed to the golf teams season. The golf team is always small and could use alot more participants. This years golf team had less quanity, but a lot of quality! BASEBALL The baseball team proved to be competitive this season, in many games, despite only winning three. Late in the season, Chilton had an opportunity to defeat, arch rival, New Holstein, and knock the Huskies out of 1st place. Chilton lost, however, 9-6. The most exciting game of the season came at home against Kewauskum. Chilton came back after being down 12-0 to win 16-15. Senior leadership was provided by most valuable player and second team all conference first baseman, Wayne Brandt. Jim Skyberg was also instrumental in providing positive leadership in an otherwise long season. Scott Schneider, Doug Dedering, Kurt Zacharias and Dean Criter all had a fine season and should help next year. 1. Doug Dedering on first base. 2. Dean Criter running to first. 3. Sophomores are required to participate in the course. However, as stressed by Mr. Skarda and the instructor, who is Miss Nelson, any parent may request that his child be temporarily removed from the course during the times when sensitive topics are discussed. All topics discussed in the course are centered around the idea of a family and of the relationship encountered by teens among family, friends, boy girl-friends, and other people encountered in the process of social interaction. The program was developed because many people were concerned with the changes that teens are going through and they wanted to help teens better understand and deal with these problems.
