Leading our class as student council members were Donna Karls, president, Lori Sell, vice president, Karen Hertel, secretary, Ruth Hephner, treasurer, and Sara Engler, Nicole Fitzpatrick, Maggie Suttner, and Gerry Karls as representatives. Our freshman cheerleaders were Carrie Heller, Sara Marks, Stacy Peik, and Lori Sell. Our only representative for the pom pon squad was Wendy Neuber. Dean Hemauer lead our class through our sophomore year as president with the help of Nicole Fitzpatrick, vice president, Lori Sell, secretary, Ruth Hephner, treasurer, and our representatives were Sarah Engler, Mary Parsons, Stacy Peik, and Maggie Suttner. This was our second Homecoming and we won the cheering competition. Sophomore year we put on our first dance. Sweet Heart Hop. February 12, Linda Popp and Steve Meyer reigned over the dance. Other court members were Lori Sell and Mark Maurer, Kim Brantmeier and Brad Thiel, Carrie Heller and Dave Rethan, Barb Nett and Pete Propson. The theme was Young Love . Our cheerleaders that year were Julie Wagner, Barb Nett, Jane Nadler, and Stacy Peik. Our representatives for the pom pon squad were Wendy Neuber, Kim Brantmeier, Carrie Heller, and Lori Sell. As juniors, Maggie Suttner was elected president of our class. Other officers were Lori Sell, vice president, Mary Parsons, secretary, Ruth Hephner, treasurer, and our class representatives were Nicole Fitzpatrick, Karen Hertel, Stacy Peik, and Jim Skyberg. The highlight of our junior year was our prom. Our theme was Heaven , by Bryan Adams. Laura Schmitz was crowned queen and Dan Gemer, king. Other court members were Sarah Engler and Wayne Brandt, Therese Groeschl and Tim Hephner, Laurie Hoerth and Dean Hemauer, Maggie Suttner and Kevin Mueller, Amy Redig and Lenny Meyers, Kerry Owens and Chris Wettstein. Representing us on the student council were Nicole Fitzpatrick, Karen Hertel, Mary Parsons, and Lori Sell. That fall, Homecoming had a special meaning for our class, because it was the last dance our class would ever sponsor. Our uptown window display took first place and the Class of 85 was printed on the plaque in the main hallway to show that we had won the overall competition of skits, posters, and cheering. Donna Karls and Ron See served as the royal couple of our dance. The theme song was Hard Habit to Break. Aggressive defense by Bill Suttner, Scott Pethan, and Perry Everix was encouraging. Mark Eisner, Scott Brantmeier, and Guy Ploeckelmann provided most of the scoring. Too many turnovers and poor shooting were weaknesses that need work. ''Ballhandling and shooting are offensive skills that need improvement,” said Coach Martin. Showing improvement as the season progressed were Dean Criter, Aaron Abendroth, Greg Garton, Ken Meyer, Brian Engler, and Steve Schelfhout. There are a number of boys who can have an impact on the varsity next year, but in order for that to happen, improvements must be made, said Martin. P-1 Team:Guy Ploecklmann. The Tigers' offensive average was down slightly from the previous season, but improved defense helped to bring success. The season-long leaders in offense and defense were Todd Eisner and Steve Meyer. Eisner also became the first Chilton player to score over 1,000 points in his career. Voted most valuable player by his teammates was Mike Sturm, who played no. 1 singles throughout the year. The most improved player award went to Paul Hertel. The finest showing of the year came when two freshmen, Dean Criter and Greg Garton, won second place medals in the tough doubles competition. Other players who helped out the team throughout the year were Kevin Schmahl, Mike Barany, Todd Criter, Patrick Dupont, Ben Schoenborn, Jim Heus, and Brian Engler. The 1984 girl's tennis team had a good year, though their record, 1-9, didn't show it. Many games were lost due to forfeits, because of the lack of girls out for the team. Senior, Julie Wagner, was rated number one in singles, with junior, Paula Steffes, senior, Lisa Martin, and freshman, Lynn Schemmer, rated numbers two, three, and four respectively. Seniors, Donna Karls and Carol Kolbe led the team in doubles, while junior, Pam Martens and freshman, Tina Nennig were rated as number two. Coach Carol Kolbe stated, “Some of these girls have been out for the team since they were freshmen, and it was nice of them to end their senior year with some wins. Co-captains of the golfers were Grant Mortimer and Karl Zacharias, who was also team medalist for the third straight year, finishing the season with a 41 average. Other lettermen were Todd Rieder, Dave Sell, Wayne Brandt, and Bill Suttner, who was also the runner up medalist. The junior varsity’s record was 12-4-2. The team had an excellent defense this year, but seemed to be struggling on the offensive side. Tim Hephner finished second overall in the conference with the most yards per carry on an average. Highlighting the football season was an exciting 12-6 victory over arch rival New Holstein on Homecoming night. The experience (actor was too much to overcome as the Tigers could muster wins only against Kiel and Stockbridge. The bright aspect of the season for the girls was the continued learning and development of all six members of the squad. Lisa Woelfel and Lori Rieder both developed confidence in their offensive skills, Robin Van Grinsven and Wendy Steinfest became strong rebounders and Robin also led the team in scoring. The scoring chores were shared by Lynn Propson who showed confidence and intelligence in finishing as the Tigers second leading scorer. Maybe the most significant development for the team was the maturing of Sheila Hemauer as the team's point guard and defensive leader. 81 GIRLS SWIM TEAM DOVE” INTO THE 1984 SEASON I 82 The '84 season was quite an eventful season for the girls swim team. There were only eight girls out for the team this year. Even though we didn’t win any meets. we did very well. Four team records were broken. Lori Rieder, Cheryl Beil, Robin Van Grinsven, and Sheila He-mauer were the top hitters. Lynn Propson worked hard being a setter, and could be counted on in crucial situations. The highlights of the year were the matches with second place Plymouth which proved to everyone that Chilton could play good volleyball. Coach Hartman is looking forward to next year when eight letter winners will be returning. These girls should form a solid nucleus for a competitive team next year, stated Coach Hartman. The team consisted of six freshmen and ten sophomores. Co-cap-tains wre Ellen Pethan and Debbie Propson. Top servers on the team were Jill Korb, Gail Nelson, and Robyn Wittmus. The highlight of the year was the win against Plymouth. The girls played well and gained confidence in themselves. Many matches were dropped by only two or three points. They will be ready for the challenges ahead next year, stated Coach Kowal. Seniors Mark Maurer, Jim Skyberg, and Dave Pethan provided fine leadership to the freshman loaded squad of twenty. They had three gymnasts from previous years who made most of the scoring. They were Laura Schmitz, Karen Albedyll, and Tricia Bosshardt. They had many freshmen who formed a strong JV Team. The highlight of the season was the annual invitational that the team has hosted for seven years. This year they took the first place trophy. Cross-country is a sport in which you need essentially two things to be successful. One is that you have to be fast and two, you have to control your breathing (or pace) so that you don't get too tired during the long course. The participants who brought cross-country back to CHS this year were Kevin Albedyll, Brian Blatz, Kurt Knoespel, Scott Pethan, Mike Roberts, Kevin Scherer, Heath Thornber, Jim Thurwachter, Julie Luchterhand and our foreign exchange student Bas Schiphorst. In cross-country you need seven boys for a boys team and seven girls for a girls team. Rochy Gazdziewski, the coach, was glad that enough boys went out for the sport and hopes that next year more girls go out for the team so Chilton can have a girls cross-country team. The Tiger runners didn't finish first in any of the meets this year, but they did well considering the more experienced teams they went up against. The Tigers were mainly led this year by the strong running of Kurt Knoespel, Mike Roberts, Scott Pethan, and Kevin Scherer. P I: Group: ott Pethan. Kurt Knoespel. Brian Blatz. Bas Schiphorst.
