I did nor know too much obour this huge country except rhor there were olor of hamburgers, plastics and all kinds of movies and (for Europeans) strange orrracrions. As you people live in a superpower country, I did nor really know whar to expect from you Americans If you are different, in whar way is it? One thing rhor knew, was that your roods were nor paved with gold like alor of people rhoughr in rhe nineteenth and in rhe eorly twentieth century. Because I knew rhor you too know whor unemployment, infiarion, and political crisis mean. Wisconsin was something new and unknown for me. I hod heard of stores like Californio, New York, Washington, Texas, and Florido, Bur Wisconsin was a name I never heard of before When I arrived in this nice stare I felt like an explorer in a totally strange place Somerimes however I've rhe impression of nor in rhe United Stares bur in Germany Vogts, Schaefers, Neubers, Millers, Schneiders, Schumachers are all names which sound German and nor American. The same with brats, sauerkraut, wieners, Ocroberfesr Compared ro my home country, Wisconsin is a very varied stare Belgium is overcrowded with cities and buildings Ten million live in o territory which is four times smaller in size than this beautiful stare, where nature is nor something that must be preserved in porks and protected woods, bur something that can be enjoyed miles and miles for away Of course you 've some bigger dries like Milwaukee, Madison, and Green Boy, bur that's it! I noticed rhor farming is an important occupation in Chilton Irs huge form fields mode me perceive this fact Earing corn-on-rhe-cob was a totally new experience for me Only animals ear corn in Belgium I never had gelatin desserts, mexican food, so much pizza, popcorn, and ice cream before Yes, there are some things for which would stay my whole life in this country forI 122 DEAR CHS, My A.F.S experience w rh you was o very nice experience. One I'm sure I will never forger. I come from Chile a long (2700 miles) and rhin country in rhe sourheosr of South America. Eleven million people live in Chile. The population is concentrated in rhe central zone, because rhe northern port of my country hos very hot weather, and rhe southern zone is very cool Allover rhe eastern port of my country we hove rhe mountain range colled Los Anders. The large coast of my country makes us a maritime country, bur our principal sources of exportation is copper, tt e have rhe largest open pit Coppermine in rhe world: 76 miles above sea level U e produce over 12% of rhe world's copper The largest city in my country is rhe capital, Santiago, with over 4 million people. My home city is Concepion, in rhe center of my country It is rhe third largest dry with 300,000 people I live in rhe downtown area of Concepion, in on apartment with my family My father is a technician in export commerce My morher is on elementary school teacher My rwo brothers ore Rodrigo (15) and Gonzalo (8) AH of us attend a catholic private school. In my school, I don't have a choice about what I want to raise because I have an obligatory schedule In my school, I con choose one of rwo ways, with emphasis in science or in literature. One thing that I like here is having a locker, because in my country I haven't one and I need to bring all my books everyday. It is also different here to hove lunch in school and a study hall hour Those things I haven't in my country. I like rhe change from a big dry to a small city. Perhaps at rhe beginning it was difficult, bur it was a nice experience Learning different things was always interesting. Thanks to Chilton, and thanks to Chilton High for making my experience grearI Til always remember you, Ximena Gololonodo AFSer 8384 from Chile 123 Anhalr, Jasen 43, 52, 86 Anholr, Tina 18, 20, 56, 70 Anhalr, Phil 70 Anhalr, Sreve 42 Augsburger, Dove 70 Dailey, Chris 20, 23, 86 Dangarr, Bobbie 20 Bongarr, Fawn 70 Dangarr, Jim 20, 70 Dangarr, Paul 20, 80 Dangarr, Theresa 20, 86 Dangarr, Vicky 22, 80 Dankenbusch, Dill 9, 80 Donkenbusch, Jenny 20 Dankenbusch, Mike 20 Dorany, Mike 20, 22, 23. 24, 44, 70 Dargholrz, Dill 49, 80 Dlair, Decky 22 Dell, Cheryl 23, 56. 80 Deyer, Jeff 9, 15, 80 Diese, Alan 23 Diese, Ann 20, 24, 70 Diese, Carla 20, 86 Diese, Connie 23, 80 Diese, Denise 20, 70 Diese, Kris 20 Diese, Robert 9, 80 Diese, Ron 20, 70 Diese, Tom 9, 15, 23, 80 Dinner, James 70 Dinner, Mark 70 Dinner, Paul 15, 86 Dlair, Decky 8, 54 Dlarz, Brenda 51, 86 Dlarz, Brian 22, 23, 46, 80 Bloomer, Kris 20, 38, 54 Bloomer, Mark 44, 52, 86 Doehnlein, Connie 80 Doll, Daniel 86 Donlonder, Kim 80 Donlander, Koren 20, 24, 51, 86 Doll, Dryon 44, 80 Dosshordr, Tricia 13, 20, 38, 54 ve, Torn 20. 86 dlev.
