Girls score first victories This year the girls tennis team did an outstanding job. The girls record was 2 victories and 6 losses. This represented the first victories in the history of girls tennis at Chilton High School. The girls were lead by returning lettermen Jane Kolbe, Rita Propson, Paula Mortimer, Laura Kampfer, and Jean Schmitz. The team was coached by Carol Raeth. 1 2 1. Row 2: Jeff Wettstien, Pat Meier, Mark Buhl, Dan Criter, Dennis Criter, Mark Werbeckes, Dale Nenning, Francis Popp, Ray Schommer and Coach John Zagrodnik. 2. Dennis Criter attempts to drive in a run. 3. On the bench, the players prepare for the next inning. 3 Tigers show improvement The Tigers didn't have as good a season this year as in previous seasons, mainly due to their weak defense. They ended the season with a 6-11 record, although they did place second in the Packerland Conference. Marty Geiser had an excellent season being chosen as the teams most valuable player and as the best defensive player. He also led the team batting average. Next year should be a very good one for the Tigers with nine returning lettermen.

Inexperience hurts Due to the few returning lettermen, the Tigers compiled a 1-10 record. Rick Owens and Eric Lozada did an excellent job at the Clintonville Invitational where they placed second at the 2 singles. Rick and Eric also won the most matches of anyone on the team. Coach Schuknechtsaid that hopefully the experience gained by the Juniors and Freshmen who played this year will help them next-season. 1 1. Rick Owens quickly moves in to score the point. 2. Randy Jaeckels easily returns the serve. 3. Row 1: Randy Jaeckels, Bill Hertel, Eric Lozada, Wayne Euclide, Rick Owens, Bill Gauthier. Row 2: Scott Schmitz, Mike Doss, Ken Hertel, Jim Mittnacht, Russ Dern, Perry Rautmann, Ken Maltby, Coach Schuknecht. 4. Bill Gauthier demonstrates his strong backhand.
